@goplayfull @ElnTskX3 Agreed, this extends way beyond console stuff and I’m soap boxing a bit. But this has and will continue to drive talented researchers away. People do console research for fun not day jobs, LLMs have basically corporatized it.

@ElnTskX3 Or rather, trashed by people using LLMs who cannot comprehend the amount of effort and passion that went into these things in the past. And they're only able to use LLMs to do this because it basically stole and trained on all the past work done by people like flow.

@ElnTskX3 Maybe if you step back for a second and re-read your own words, you can understand. Pre-LLMs people were not so reckless and careless about burning other people's stuff because a lot of time and effort needed to be put in. Hundreds of hours, years of expertise. Trashed by LLMs.

@sioslayer Shocking news alert: most people who previously did console research did it for the fun of finding out how things work and digging into things. Prompting a chatbot and bruteforcing solutions isn't very fun or rewarding. I'm sure the piracy kids are thrilled though.

There's been a rumor going around that the dev/testkits that were banned were banned because they used a specific update file, the truth is the kits that were banned were banned because they were cheating online and anyone that suggests differently is coping

@viperbjk This is a general pattern I see in a lot of LLM-built things not just exploits. Tools/software are like this too, if you take things it builds out of the box it'll work on your machine but as soon as its not in an identical environment things break immediately

@xoreaxeaxeax There some things I’m puzzled on with this. Does this only work on pre-zen CPUs? Readme hints it may work on later but there’s not much info I could see. I’m also confused on PSP impact? AFAIK most sensitive info is in SRAM not DRAM, and idk if fTPM is used on CPUs this old?

@LiveOverflow I think the problem is that this feeling for many expands beyond just CTFs, they're just the best example of it. It's really hard to feel proud of your work when you see people doing what used to take you weeks in 1 day of prompting. & idk if there's a good solution there either.

@Spillfreaks I might be able to get some compensation but even if I can, it'll probably be impossible to get the proper value for them since these models are harder to acquire and pricier than MSRP.

Some people already know this, but thought I'd mention here too... unfortunately basically all of my low fw PS5s got stolen recently, so I'm not sure what my future in console research will look like. Replacing this stuff might be too be difficult & expensive to be worth it :(
