A man lights a cigarette while sitting in a cab.
CAB DRIVER: Sir, did you ask me before lighting a cigarette? Smoking is not allowed in my car.
MAN: Why should I ask you? It’s not your car, it’s a taxi. You can’t just say smoking isn’t allowed 😳
DRIVER: I am cancelling the ride. I don’t want your money. Please get out of my car. I’m a taxi driver, not your servant 😠
RW X is yet to appreciate how deeply based the Karnataka State Anthem is.
Here is one more scintillating verse;
Śaṅkara rāmānuja vidyāraṇya,
basavēśvara madhvara divyāraṇya.
Ranna ṣaḍakṣari ponna,
pampa lakumipati janna.
Kumāravyāsara maṅgaḷadhāma,
kavikōgilegaḷa puṇyārāma.
Nānaka ramānanda kabīrara
bhārata jananiya tanujāte,
jaya hē karnāṭaka māte.
Thou art a sacred forest of knowledge where Shankara, Ramanuja, Vidyaranya, Basaveswara, Madhvacharya and others dwelt.
Thou art the holy abode where Ranna,
Shadakshari, Ponna, Pampa,
Lakshmisa, Kumaravyasa and Janna were born.
Thou art the blessed resting place of many nightingale-like poets.
Victory to thee, Mother Karnataka,
Daughter of Mother India
The progenitor of Nanak, Ramananda and Kabir.
Tailapa hoysaḷarāḷida nāḍe,
ḍaṅkaṇa jakaṇara neccina bīḍe.
Kṛṣṇa śarāvati tuṅgā,
kāvēriya vara raṅga.
Caitan'ya paramahansa vivēkara
bhārata jananiya tanujāte,
jaya hē karnāṭaka māte.
'Tis the land ruled by Tailapa and Hoysalas, the beloved home of Dankana and Jakkana. This land is blessed with the waters of Krishna, Sharavathi, Tunga and Kaveri. Victory to thee, Mother Karnataka, Daughter of Mother India! The India of Chaitanya, Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda.
Calling Hindutva casteist is naive at best, and malicious at worst.
The principal theorist of Hindutva, V.D. Savarkar, spent years attacking untouchability as a civilizational weakness. He organised inter-caste dining when orthodox society opposed it, advocated inter-caste marriage, and was instrumental in establishing the Patit Pavan Mandir at Ratnagiri, one of the first temples explicitly opened to Hindus of every caste. These weren't just speeches; they were social reforms that invited fierce opposition from orthodox circles.
More fundamentally, Savarkar's definition of a Hindu was never based on caste. In Essentials of Hindutva, Hindu identity is rooted in a shared civilizational inheritance, cultural continuity, and attachment to India as both Pitribhumi and Punyabhumi, not in ritual status or birth. His conception sought to bring Shaivas, Vaishnavas, Shaktas, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, tribal traditions and other Indic faiths into a common national identity that transcended caste divisions.
You may disagree with Hindutva for many reasons. But calling its founding philosophy "deeply casteist" is difficult to reconcile with the historical record of its principal architect, and the foundational principles of itself.
>"Vedas and Sanskrit are shunned by Kannadigas"
> Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Anthem :
Jananiya jōguḷa vēdada ghōṣa,
jananige jīvavu ninnāvēśa!
Hasurina girigaḷa sālē,
ninnaya koraḷina māle!
Kapila patan̄jala gautama jinanuta,
bhārata jananiya tanujāte!
Jaya hē karnāṭaka māte!
Resonance of the Vedas is the Mother's lullaby,
Thy fervour is what giveth Her life.
Rows of green mountains are thy necklaces.
Victory to thee, Mother Karnataka,
Daughter of Mother India
who is hailed by Kapila,
Patañjali, Gautama and Jina.
