Plague was introduced to California and the Mountain West around 1900 via ships carrying infected rats, which spread the bacteria to native rodents. After 125 years it’s widespread at low levels, and every so often there’s a report of someone becoming infected. It’s very curable today with antibiotics.

@rawsalerts The most medically relevant application I see is as a bridge for preterm babies, transferring them to finish out development. Per the CDC 2023 data, the preterm birth rate in the U.S. is around 10–11% and about 10% globally.
@rawsalerts It’s about 20 million years older than Earth, which means it formed just before our planet was fully assembled. But it’s still younger than our solar system. Cool but like whatever.
It’s “litter”-ally called that. In both academic research and professional practice across forestry, forest ecology, soil science, grassland ecology, wetland ecology, tropical ecology, and agroecology, “litter” is the scientific term for the layer of fallen plant material on the ground.
@JasonPYYC @ChrisCrosssm8 In Forest / soil science, “litter” is the scientific term for the layer of fallen leaves, needles, twigs, and other plant material covering the forest floor. It does not mean trash, it is the term used in peer-reviewed forest, soil, and grassland science articles.
Do you know how wildlife moves?
We do! This colorful animation highlights data from the Arctic Animal Movement Archive (AAMA) to show ecological insights from three decades of animal movement tracking across a changing Arctic. #WWD2025

I think this will be great for the tech ecosystem and the country. 🇺🇸💪
