Genuine question for anyone who’s been through heavily oversubscribed IPOs before:
If the SpaceX IPO is reportedly 2x oversubscribed and someone indicates interest in 100 shares, is it reasonable to expect an allocation of around 50 shares, or is the process usually less straightforward than that?
Curious how allocations typically work when demand significantly exceeds supply.
Tesla FSD just got defeated by a flock of pigeons. 🐦
The birds blocked the parking lot exit and FSD refused to move.
No creeping forward. Ok no problem 👌🏽
No going around?
Just a complete standoff until I honked the horn.
Who was right: My Tesla or the pigeons?
I vividly remember when OTPP publicly announced their investment in SpaceX in 2019.
SpaceX going public this week feels different.
Most IPOs are about a company trying to prove itself.
SpaceX has already changed the space industry.
The real question is whether Starship, Starlink, and their long-term vision can justify the valuation.
Either way, it is probably the most anticipated IPO I will see in my lifetime.
Here's the announcement that the Ontario, Canada Teachers' Pension Plan made in 2019 when they invested $300M into @SpaceX, which at the target IPO valuation of $1.75T would be worth $11.6B:
"SpaceX is the world’s leading private space launch provider, and we are excited to work with the company in the next phase of its growth as it rolls out its Starlink satellite network."
This would come out to about $33,500 for each of the Pension Plans' 346,000 members. Incredible.
FSD encountered an interesting emergency-vehicle edge case today.
A fire truck was exiting its station without lights or sirens activated.
Watch closely as Tesla FSD:
• Slows down abruptly
• Briefly moves toward the adjacent right lane
• Does not signal the lane movement
• Triggers a driver intervention
The movement only lasted a moment, but it was enough for me to press the accelerator and disengage so I could submit a voice report.
I’m genuinely curious what the neural network detected here.
Was FSD being appropriately cautious around an emergency vehicle, or was this an overreaction?
What would you have done?
