1/9 Friday NBA card, 9 plays, 5.05u total. Wizards ML, Knicks-76ers Under 227.5, Knicks -1.5, Pistons-Nets Under 221.5, Magic +5.5, Rockets -6.5, Lakers -2.5, plus two small rebound props: Towns and Embiid. Breakdown below.
4/5 Clippers-Wolves Under 222.5 (-105), 0.5u. Minnesota is without Anthony Edwards after his knee procedure, and the Clippers scored just 87 in their last game. Three of their four games stayed under this total.
What I got wrong this week.
Kings-Pelicans Under 235.5.
I had it in my Thursday card. The total went over by 16.5.
Final: Pelicans 132, Kings 120. 252 combined.
My read: two short-handed teams, tired legs, a grind.
What actually happened: a track meet.
45 combined turnovers.
63 fast-break points.
New Orleans shot 60% and scored 80 points in the paint.
I saw missing players and a back-to-back and assumed slow.
I should have asked a different question first. Does either team slow the game down on purpose?
Neither did. Both wanted to run.
Next time I'll check three things before I like an Under:
1. Who forces turnovers?
2. How many of the points come in transition?
3. Does either team actually want to play slow?
One miss. The read behind it is the part I'm fixing.
What's the one stat you check before betting a total?

CAM BOOZER TRIPLE-DOUBLE.
GRIZZLIES STAY UNDEFEATED.
Boozer (18p, 12r, 12a) becomes the second-youngest NBA player to ever record a triple-double, propelling the @memgrizz to their first 5-0 start since the 2014-15 season!
