In any case, as someone who has almost exclusively bought boy clothes for my daughters, the issue with buying boys’ stuff comes when they want to pick their own clothes. My 6 y/o daughter wants pink and purple, puppies, kittens, unicorns, and butterflies now and they don’t have those in the boys section. Everyone should be able to have clothes they like that also comfortably fit their body. Period.
It’s insane that little girls have to wear stuff they don’t like or wear tiny shorts that give them wedgies and tshirts with tiny sleeves that dig into their armpits when there’s another option: Simply stop sexualizing little girls and make all the fucking clothes the same size / shape.
And frankly I’d like to add that it isn’t just little girls. These issues exist in the women’s section, too.
Also, all students are allowed to select from a list of assignments, so they do have options if they are not comfortable tracking their own diets. But most choose this one.
Really disturbed reading these assignments for my nutrition class, not knowing if these students are underreporting their diets or if they are starving.
And this is how information about the local food pantries ends up in my syllabus.
And now I’m mad at the world.
So this attack on #democracy is also a #racist attack, as the third lawmaker, Rep. Gloria Johnson, is white. A disastrously amoral day for Tennessee House Republicans in a state reeling from a school shooting. @Tennessean
Am I the only one who does *not* want to be “recognized” for my manuscript reviews?
I genuinely feel like this will just turn into another metric junior faculty/newer experts will have to track that their predecessors do not…
One of my favorite projects finally published! Only took a pandemic and two babies for me to get around to this one… thank goodness for amazing PhD students! @lissa_davis42

Just a reminder that the majority of the money the state of Florida has to make and enforce these laws comes from tourism.
What if "woke" people stopped vacationing in Florida?
Would that weaken Florida's attacks on racial, gender, and sexual minorities?
The text of DeSantis' higher education bill has been released. It's as terrifying as the press release suggested it would be. Florida HB 999 would enact the most draconian and censorious restrictions on higher education in the history of this country. https://t.co/mTsNuSryt4

Me: So weird thinking kids get a push notification about snow days. For us it was a whole event—turn on TV, wait for the scrolling ticker to get to your county in the alphabet, be looking away and have to wait again. How did they do it for your schools?
Spouse: … It was LA.
today the CDC added increases in pediatric group A strep to the list of illnesses impacting our children.
We're still dealing with the shortage of pediatric pain meds and amoxicillin.
Where is the call for collective action?
Where is public health?
Where is political will?
This is not the typical academic writing I publish. Wrote this essay @purdueexponent to help myself and our community heal while taking action for advocacy. Thanks to my family, former advisor @RichLeePhD, and current student Jenni for my storytelling.
