A trailing spouse, a café in Shunyi, a private detective, and a long wait . . . Spittoon (Not Exactly) Monthly presents "The Bitter Beijing Blues" by Rianka Mohan. After the story, stick around for an interview with the author by Jennifer Fossenbell.
@yilinwriter As for the sample, any genre and any length will do! We want to get a sense of your voice as a translator as well as your proficiency in Chinese and English
@yilinwriter Thanks for these questions! Once we have selected translators who we feel would be good fits, we will present them with either a work of prose or poetry by a contemporary Chinese writer to see if they are interested in translating it into English. They would be paid.
Eventually released is my book in Chinese, The Reaper 《割芦苇的人》, a collection of essays. Here’s the contents part arranged as in ancient times. The title reminds you of the grim reaper? A reader said it’s reminiscent of Wordsworth’s The Solitary Reaper. What a surprise!

@Confucius_UoS at Weston Park May Fayre this Sunday 21st May, where we'll be showing off our cultural activities such as Chinese calligraphy, costume wearing, dragon dancing, Chinese paper folding and more... Come find us at the May Fayre for your Sunday dose of Chinese culture!
Spittoon Monthly welcomes more submissions for our next feature, deadline November 12th. Every writer we publish gets the full special treatment--artwork, interview, and thoughtful interaction with their work. Please submit and spread the word.
Do you write hybrid work? Does it cross boundaries of genre and/or culture? Is your work from or about Asia (in the most inclusive sense)? If so, we want to draw attention to your work.

Thank you. From everyone at @bcltuea to the entire Literature from Taiwan group and of course the National Museum of Taiwan Literature. You’ve reminded me that I have wings.
