Firefighters contain three separate fires during a busy day in #Ottawa.
At approximately 02:26, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received multiple 9-1-1 calls from residents screaming that there was a fire in the 400 block of Nelson Street. Firefighters arrived on scene 3 minutes after being dispatched and confirmed smoke coming from the basement of a three-storey multi-unit low-rise. Two occupants suffering from burns were immediately treated on scene by Firefighters. Crews encountered heavy smoke and zero visibility conditions in the basement. The fire was located in one of the two basement apartments and was quickly extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the building. The fire was declared under control at 02:55. Two full searches confirmed no other occupants were inside. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene.
The second fire occurred at approximately 10:08, when the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call from a resident in the 1700 block of Cuba Avenue reporting smoke coming from their neighbour’s basement. The caller advised that the occupants were not home but that a dog was inside. While still on the line, the neighbour reported seeing flames. On arrival, Firefighters confirmed smoke and flames coming from basement windows at the back of the home. Crews initiated a fast attack, advancing a hose line inside while a secondary crew applied water through the basement windows. Heavy black smoke and zero visibility forced Firefighters to use a thermal imaging camera to locate the flames, which were in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly extinguished before spreading beyond the basement. The fire was declared under control at 10:31. Firefighters conducted two searches confirming no occupants were inside and safely brought the dog outside. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene.
The third fire occurred at approximately 11:05, when the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call reporting an odour of burning coming from a townhome under construction in the 500 block of Woodlily Private. Firefighters were directed by construction workers to the affected unit and found smoke coming from underneath the siding near the second floor balcony of a three-storey home. Crews began opening up the walls and located fire running from the first floor up to the second floor. Firefighters continued to open the walls and extinguished the flames. The fire was declared under control at 11:47. A thermal imaging camera was used to confirm there were no hidden hot spots. There are no reported injuries. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. #OttNews

Always a moving ceremony at Ottawa City Hall for the 24th Annual Memorial service to honour the legacy of courage & bravery of fallen firefighters 🇨🇦 Nous nous souvenons aujourd’hui de l’héritage de courage et de bravoure @ChiefHutt@OttFire
Today I attended the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony in Ottawa with several of my council colleagues. It was a moving and powerful moment to honour and remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
This national memorial brings together families, colleagues, and communities from across the country to reflect, pay respect, and support loved ones as they continue through the grieving process. Standing among so many, I was reminded of the courage and dedication firefighters demonstrate every single day in keeping our communities safe.
A special recognition goes to @OttFire for their ongoing commitment here in our city, and to the @CanFirefighters for ensuring that the legacy of the fallen lives on and is never forgotten.

Firefighters rescued a resident trapped in an Orleans bog near the Ottawa River this morning.
At approximately 10:45, the Ottawa Fire Services Communications Division received a 9-1-1 call from a resident who became trapped in a bog while walking on trails North of Francois Dupont Park in Orleans. The caller reported being buried up to the waist in thick mud, completely stuck with nothing around them to hold onto or pull themselves free.
Our Dispatchers played a critical role in this rescue. They quickly retrieved the caller’s GPS coordinates and marked the location on the maps displayed on the portable tablets in all responding fire trucks, giving Firefighters an exact route to the stranded individual.
