Please judge this statement by my own words, not what someone else said about it on Twitter. My accusers have spent a long time spreading their narrative and may bomb this with comments to poison the well, while this is my 1st chance to publicly explain... https://t.co/es7UsytK6B
If you want to experience the most MID tournament in the Splatoon scene for the last time, sign up for MID Junction 100, with a $300 starting prize pool on August 23rd at 7 PM. 😉

@Kbot_273 Yes, this falls on the shoulders of TOs- but it seems the only way forward, because we can't expect the players to organize in this way- because they won't.
@Kbot_273 Players have been asked to form consistent teams for years, and I don't think it'll work by just telling them. We need to foster an environment that encourages team building, through planning consistently good events.
@Kbot_273 I think for the most part, these league events are isolated- that the teams that participate in them are only good for the duration of the tournament. The Resurgence League was a great idea, but something like it would have to be run consistently enough to keep teams together.
@Kbot_273 Sorry, I didn’t see this! I don’t actually think the team thing has been tried to the extent I’d imagine it being effective, and I’ve personally been curious about filling the gap there. Motivation is another issue altogether, but someone’s gotta start somewhere.
@JoyTheDataNerd Could also be a skill level issue- There’s a lot of lower level/skill capped tournaments that might be seeing an uptick, whereas more established uncapped tournaments might be fine.
I’ve made a slightly longer write up on the other site but while this isn’t a smoking gun, it’s more evidence that smaller tournaments might be cannibalizing larger ones for players
Thanks to Cue for the inspiration and for his marvelous analysis
This trend is still ongoing, and we now have seen 44 tournaments in a single week (11/18 - 11/24). On that week, 15 tournaments were held on Saturday, 11/23.
Last week, https://t.co/0RLWeHVBf5 hosted 36 tournaments- the most ever in a single week.
While this is a great achievement for Sendou, we need to do much better as TOs collectively in addressing this bloat. We can't continue to fragment the player base as badly as we are now.

There's a lot of colours on this chart, and it might get compressed, but in summary around half of the tournaments each month are actually non affiliated to any org.
However, some orgs do make up a significant proportion of the total tournaments hosted every week.
