Today, on June 3, we recognize Red Shirt Day, a national day of action for accessibility and inclusion.
Led by Easter Seals Canada’s Red Shirt Day movement, this day encourages people across Canada to wear red, show support, and take action to remove barriers for individuals living with disabilities.
In Ontario alone, over 2.6 million people live with a disability. This reminds us of the importance of accessibility and inclusion. It is also an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions, leadership, and achievements of individuals in our schools, workplaces, and communities.
June is Pride Month! A celebration of the diversity, joy and contributions of Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities. Across our schools and communities, Pride is an opportunity to come together, show support and uplift one another. It also connects us to an important history.
Pride actually began as a protest—a brave movement where people stood up, raised their voices, and fought for the right to be treated with fairness, kindness, and respect. Pride is a meaningful reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe and valued for exactly who they are as we continue to foster environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to be their authentic selves, this month, and throughout the entire year!
During School Crossing Guard Week, June 1–5, Peel District School Board proudly recognizes the important role crossing guards play in keeping our school communities safe.
Every day, they help students navigate busy intersections with care, professionalism, and dedication. Their steady presence supports safer routes to and from school and contributes to positive, welcoming school environments.
We extend our sincere thanks to all school crossing guards for their ongoing commitment to student safety and well-being.
June is National Indigenous History Month. An opportunity to recognize and honour the histories, cultures, contributions and resilience of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.
Throughout the month, we are encouraged to learn from Indigenous voices, perspectives and knowledge systems, and to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism. It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the strength of Indigenous communities and the importance of preserving languages, traditions and ways of knowing.
As we continue this learning journey, we are reminded of our shared responsibility to build understanding, foster respect and support meaningful actions toward truth and reconciliation.
National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of accessibility and inclusion in our communities. By identifying and removing barriers, we can help create spaces where everyone feels welcomed, valued and able to participate fully.
June 1 marks Ontario Day.
A day to celebrate the people, cultures, and communities that shape our province.
At PDSB, we are proud to honour the diversity, voices, and experiences that make our schools places of belonging, learning, and growth.
