@jimbo38 Confirmed on the school web site https://t.co/IUlsDWHuVc desperately saddened by this news. I met Colm through the work he was leading his students on research into the Gravesend area War Memorials. 8 substantial volumes produced. A good friend.
@Truluck_Wilts We had a car take us there from Lisbon. The driver couldn’t quite understand why until we got there. His reaction was one of amazement and he planned to visit it again with his family. Had lunch in bar/restaurant in the village which surprised the locals. Came back via Elvas.
@almurray@James1940@WeHaveWaysPod My late father in law who served in the RN boy and man oft expressed the view that the Fleet Air Arm flew when even seagulls were grounded. It seems he was correct.
@Jimmyocx3@BritishArmy Probably a consequence of dealing with it himself instead of on the record the next morning. Certainly often done that way back in the 60s.
@ProfKarolSikora That’s OK until you are elderly and your passport has expired and you have had to surrender your driving licence. You then have no legitimate means of proving your identity with to bank, solicitor or such like. For the moment I will renew my passport.
@wtbattlefields@WeHaveWaysPod Phil, no idea, may not even have known since the painting wasn’t done until 1969. Kit was 60 then but he was possibly still in touch with Montgomery. Good piece by him in ‘Monty at close quarters’ ed: by John Howarth with other valuable insights into Monty.
@ypreswoman@DBGMilitaria It would have been GWR if there were any. Some of the family lived in Little Somerford and joined the GWR. Many thanks for checking for me.
