@CLEsportsTalk Sox fan here, yall didn't lose confidence after being down 2-0, 1-1 seems like a better deal heading home for 3. Game 2 was a missed opportunity but nothing more.
People keep posting pics of it thinned out before people can even make it in the doors in the 3rd inning cuz of the shit location and 20 mile ride from Tampa across a packed bridge. The game doesn't fill up till the 3rd inning anyways and no one wants to sit up top either where the shitty view is blocked cuz of their shit roof design. I mean who puts bleachers in any other place but the outfield? Tropicana Gymnasium does. These factors deter game attendance, not the Rays product on the field or the supposed lack of fans. St Pete is the I only city I've been to where it's more fun to watch the game at the bar than the stadium.
That and people keep posting pics of it thinned out before people can even make it in the doors for the very same reason you mentioned... The bus system in St Pete was packed with rays fans yesterday afternoon. The game doesn't fill up till the 3rd inning anyways and no one wants to sit up top either where the shitty view is blocked cuz of their shit roof design. Tropicana Gymnasium is the reason seats are empty not the Rays product on the field or the supposed lack of fans. St Pete is the only city I've been to where it's more fun to watch the game at the bar than at the stadium.
@jaketodonnell How many viewers just tune in to see if the Dodgers lose (aka hate watching) versus how many are fans of the teams themselves? Interesting stat, but it is a metric worth considering.
I live 20 blocks from Tropicana Gymnasium, I can't watch it on TV at home on local TV on spectrum. How does this help baseball? I don't even like either team but I want to watch thus giving them "better ratings" and viewing their ads... It isn't worth the extra subscription bill just to watch a team I don't like.
@tallskinnyben The leagues television policies are the reason viewership goes down not the teams that are in it... even on the east coast here, 5pm people who actaully watch baseball are blue collar who ain't home till 6 or 6:30 after rush hours
The ratings are guaranteed to be lower if the two largest metro areas in the country aren't playing in the series. That doesn't mean it's bad for the game. Overpaid players that don't produce what underpaid players produce and creating the perceived need for a cap is ruining baseball...
@DerekMagyar@Wisconsin_fam Yeah he could've saved the grenade thing for after crossing home for sure. He wasn't the first one to hot dog it and he won't be the last, welcome to the 2020's
@BaseballQuotes1 Misjudged the bounce, the ball probably made contact with ground on the threads as opposed to the leather, shit happens, bad timing though. The replay does show the ball hitting the edge of the Tropicana surf turf though, impacting the angle of the bounce.
@DanClarkSports Less guaranteed money, more performance-based bonuses would possibly fix this overpaid player issue league wide... maybe a more important conversation than the cap. Over paid players are the reason for the want for a salary cap.
Mismanagement of talent will always be exposed to a better managed small cap team. However, mismanagement of talent isn't a legitimate excuse to price everyone else out of the talent pool.
The conversation needs to start on the topic players being overpaid in the first place. This contributes to the problem when there's record contracts every year and everyone's trying to one-up each other without producing what would actually justify the bump up.
