With chronic illness, you normalise so many things most people won't ever feel. You normalise high levels of pain, being exhausted, medical procedures and trauma, needing to rest after a shower. People see you surviving with an illness, but not all you had to normalise to do so.
Our kiddo does the typical kid thing where they occasionally scream or yell for no reason. Instead of telling them “no we don’t do that” or “use your inside voice” we started telling them that until they pay taxes, they can’t scream. It’s been surprisingly effective
As a parent I’ve found it’s important to find spaces you can 100% dedicate to allowing yourself relax. Mine is the coat closet. It’s the one place the kid doesn’t think to look for me. 😂
Being a step parent has got to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but I swear when that kids eyes light up when she sees me? I wouldn’t change a thing.
