@YourLocalNecro I suggest completely stopping your participation over time, I know it's not easy to do by yourself so if needed I can point you towards accessible plant-based alternatives.

Also look into dairy, eggs, wool and leather, it's basically as cruel if not worse than the meat industry.

There will always be food waste whether you buy animal based products or not, it's the industry's fault for producing so much, it's not our responsability to try to undo their fuck-ups.

Sorry for the rant, but just so you have the whole context :

Welfarism has been shown to be ineffective, it is of no use to the animals, it only eases our conscience as consumers while we still think of non-human animals as ressources which we can freely use and exploit, as well as going against their interests not to be taken advantage of.

What does work is stopping one's participation full stop, as it decreases the demand for more animals to be bred into existence for the sole purpose of being farmed and killed.

This makes a huge difference over time, plus it can influence others around you into making those same changes.

All animal based products work this way, like it does for the pet industry or animal-based entertainment. The decrease of interest/demand has been demonstrated with circuses and aquatic shows being rapidly phased out from the acceptable norm.
