On October 2, 1960, at just 32 years old, Buddhist philosopher Daisaku Ikeda departed Japan on his first overseas journey, marking his first step toward worldwide kosen-rufu*.
Over the course of 24 days, he visited nine cities in three countries: Honolulu, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Washington, D.C., São Paulo and Los Angeles. ✈️🌎
This October 2, as we look toward 2030 and the 100th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai’s founding, we look back on Ikeda’s reflections in Honolulu, Hawaii. There, he contemplated the significance of taking his first step to advance peace worldwide from Hawaii, a place deeply marked by war yet also a “melting pot of humanity,” and envisioned it as a model for peace. 🌺🕊️
The following passages from The New Human Revolution, vol. 1, recount Ikeda’s experiences through the character of Shin’ichi Yamamoto.
* Kosen-rufu: the realization of world peace rooted in respect for the dignity of life and the happiness of each individual.

On October 2, 1960, Daisaku Ikeda set out on his first overseas trip to promote peace—a journey inspired by a conversation he had with his mentor, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda, in 1954,
Embarking on this journey, which would eventually take him to 54 countries and territories during his lifetime, Ikeda carried with him his mentor’s wish for peace and his encouragement to spread the teachings of Buddhism around the world.

🆕News: On Sept. 15 and 16, the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning, chaired by SGI, held side events during the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. On Sept. 15, the group co-sponsored a workshop with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to discuss, through theater, the human rights of children in situations of armed conflict and violence. The same day, Elisa Gazzotti of the SGI Office for UN Affairs, a co-chair of the working group, delivered a statement on its behalf at a High-Level Panel discussion on Human Rights Education and Training. She noted that 15 years after the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training (2011), the first to establish international standards for human rights education, a large gap remains between commitments and implementation. She called for stronger, more systematic monitoring, including a more robust mechanism to assess implementation. The following day, the group co-hosted an event with the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Lebanon, Mongolia, Italy, Slovenia, the Philippines and Thailand, where participants reviewed achievements and challenges since the declaration's adoption and discussed priorities for achieving further progress.

Jack Smith: "Our nondisclosure orders were not predicated on the idea that members of Congress or members of this committee would commit acts of obstruction. It was based on a real concern that Donald Trump and his associates would do that because they had done it and they did it again. Donald Trump, in our case, in the elections case, later suggested that a witness, General Mark Milley, should be put to death. He said, 'if you come after me, I'm coming after you.' Election workers in Georgia, Ruby Freeman and her daughter, faced vile, racist death threats because of the things that Donald Trump said and how he targeted her. We had an absolute basis to seek protection of our investigation from that sort of obstruction.
Sen. @amyklobuchar: We have confirmed that you were right, Mr. Smith. The Iowa Hawkeyes played Maryland on February 3, 2024. The final score was 93-85. Iowa won and Caitlin Clark scored 30 points, so it must've been a pretty good game. The game was, in fact, in Maryland. For a US senator to have false information and imply that you were in another city and then call you a 'dirtbag' is something that deserves an apology.
If Congressional Republicans wanted the American people to know the truth about Jack Smith's investigation, they would subpoena his report.
But they don't. It's easier to attack him, than confront the evidence of the President’s guilt.
🆕News: Youth leaders from the Amazon region gathered at the Soka Amazon Institute in Manaus, Brazil, for the Amazonian Youth Summit 2026, held Aug. 31–Sept. 1 and cohosted by the Club of Rome, Earth Charter International (ECI), the Soka Amazon Institute and the SGI.
The summit is part of "It's Time for a Human Revolution," a joint project of the Club of Rome and Soka Gakkai marking the 40th anniversary of 𝘉𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘐𝘵 𝘐𝘴 𝘛𝘰𝘰 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘦, a dialogue between Club of Rome Cofounder Aurelio Peccei and @daisakuikeda_of.
The first day featured government representatives and scholars, including Club of Rome Co-President Silvia Zimmermann del Castillo, who recalled that Peccei and Ikeda shared the conviction that solving global challenges requires inner change, or "human revolution," and ECI Executive Director Mirian Vilela, who spoke of ECI and SGI's long-standing collaboration on education for sustainable development.
The second day brought together local students and young people to discuss ways of tackling problems facing the Amazon region and the role of human revolution. Two speakers recalled how visiting the Amazon Institute and learning about environmental protection as schoolchildren changed the course of their lives. Nobuyuki Asai, Director for Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Affairs of the SGI Peace Center, recalled Ikeda’s identification of wisdom, courage and compassion as the qualities of a global citizen, saying this focus on humanity's inner dimension aligns with recent developments at the UN.

This is when Mayor Zohran Mamdani walked 6 miles from City Hall to celebrate his first 100 days & he’s treated like a Celebrity because he’s so loved, trusted & respected by so many. Now he’s even more popular than before with people all over the World asking him for help.
Major TV networks are cashing taxpayer-funded checks to air what is literally a deranged Trump campaign ad.
Time to review Fox, EVERY network, and every company knowingly profiting from this illegal scheme.
Stop now — before it’s too late.
Senator Doug Jones: Alabama isn't a red state, it's a non-voting state. No early voting, no mail-in, and it's hard to cast a ballot. He wants to change that and get people to the polls. @DougJones

Meet Parastoo Ahmadi, the Iranian singer just sentenced to 74 lashes for not wearing a hijab in a music video. And I have yet to see a single Western popstar, actor, or woke social justice warrior speechifying about her.
Almost like standing up for truly oppressed people isn’t actually the point.
MR. @drpezeshkian! You don’t get to kill women at home, hang men at home and come to New York asking to be treated not as terrorist. Look at their faces. I dare you. These are the women your regime killed. No suit, no speech, no UN podium can wash that away.
