The past few days mark a historic milestone for the Chromie Squiggle Collection, @ArtOnBlockchain , @squiggleDAO , and the entire on-chain generative art community. The MoMA (@MuseumModernArt ) in New York has officially added a Full Set of Chromie Squiggles to its permanent collection.

Founded in 1929, MoMA was the first museum devoted entirely to modern art, setting the blueprint for how contemporary art is curated and experienced worldwide. The MoMA welcomes over 3 million visitors annually, making it one of the most popular cultural destinations globally. Its collection includes some of the most influential works in modern art history such as Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, and Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans.

This achievement has been two years in the making, a journey that began on October 13, 2023, when SquiggleDAO set out to bring Squiggles into one of the world’s most renowned art institutions, The MoMA. The DAO successfully sourced a full set from esteemed collectors across the community. With the invaluable support of @kukulabanze and @Noahbolanowski from @1OF1_art, and each of the collectors who generously contributed these works, which have now found their place within the MoMA’s historic collection. @gmoneyNFT @ArtOnBlockchain @jdh @VonMises14 @kukulabanze & an anonymous collector.

The MoMA is the first museum to collect a complete set of Chromie Squiggles, sending a powerful signal to the art world about the importance of collecting full sets and celebrating diversity within collections. We're excited of the future of the Chromie Squiggle, with a total of 21 Squiggles collected through 10 different museums worldwide!

Many organizations have come and gone over the years, especially those built during periods defined by hype and mania. The @squiggleDAO formed permissionlessly to formally build a community around the Chromie Squiggle and remarkably is not only still around but played a major role in the MoMA’s recent additions. They have hosted events and stewarded my work with care, respect, appreciation and conviction, and I’m grateful to @NiftyFiftyETH and @Sam12_23 as well all every one of the individual members for being a part of it.

Proud of the team’s accomplishments, and looking forward to seeing what their continued advocacy for the Squig brings to the community in 2026 and beyond.

We’re proud to announce that Chromie Squiggle #1458 will be joining The Toledo Museums permanent collection.

The Toledo Museum of Art, founded in 1901, houses an impressive array of artwork, including pieces from renowned artists like Van Gogh, Monet, and Rembrandt, as well as exceptional glass art, reflecting Toledo’s history as the "Glass City." The Museum stands out as one of the few institutions actively collecting digital art, embracing the evolving landscape of contemporary creativity. By acquiring works that incorporate digital techniques, blockchain technology, and generative algorithms, the museum acknowledges the growing significance of digital media in artistic expression. This Acquisition is significant due to the following:

This is a Ghost Squiggle, 1 of 20 in rarity, the second Ghost ever minted. Ghosts are Ribbed Squiggles with a segment color between 252 and 255, both included. They are called Ghosts because they are almost invisible. "Perfect Whites” have a segment color that completely blends into the background (i.e. 255). We’re honored that it’s going to the permanent collection of The Toledo Museum.

We’re proud to announce that Chromie Squiggle #5069 will be joining The Nxt Museums permanent collection.

The Nxt Museum, located in Amsterdam, stands out in the art world for its exclusive focus on new media art and immersive digital experiences. Unlike traditional museums, Nxt Museum integrates cutting-edge technology, such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, to create multisensory exhibitions that engage audiences in unique and transformative ways. The museum is dedicated to exploring the intersection of art, science, and technology, fostering innovation and challenging conventional boundaries of artistic expression. The Nxt Museum serves as an important cultural hub for technological advancements just as how the Chromie Squiggles were the first major 10k edition, on-chain generative art project that used a hash to generate the variables that determine the art.

Creating sculptures brings a digital artist's work into the physical world, reaching new audiences. Sculptures help establish a distinct and recognizable style, reinforcing the Squiggle brand across multiple mediums had a deep cultural effect. Physical sculptures enable viewers to engage with the art in a tactile and spatial way, offering experiences that digital mediums can't replicate. This was clear in Marfa, everyone would stop by and interact with the sculpture.

We will continue to pursue this initiative due to its importance, which includes:

- Legacy and Recognition: The Foundation may be recognized not only for its donation but also for pioneering in the art philanthropy space, fulfilling its goal of fostering cultural longevity for the Chromie Squiggle and generative art. As the first Blockchain Generative Art Foundation to donate an art piece to a museum, it cements a legacy in both the art community and museum history. By having traditional art institutions recognize Squiggles, it sends a message about their importance and cultural value, creating a snowball effect for future generations.

- Cultural Influence: By donating art, the Foundation demonstrates its commitment to cultural and artistic enrichment. It helps shape and diversify the museum's collection, influences curatorial strategies, and promotes the embrace of generative art.

- Leading the Generative Art Space: The Foundation sets a precedent, opening the door for other Foundation to contribute to the generative art space. These actions inspire others to follow suit and lead broader participation in the art world.

The ICA Miami is the fourth publicly announced museum to add a Squiggle to its permanent collection, and we’re excited for this number to continue growing!

Since opening in 2014, it has organized nearly 100 exhibitions, launched 10 educational programs, supported more than 1,000 artists, and welcomed over 1 million visitors.
