Today marks a historic milestone for the Chromie Squiggle Collection, Snowfro, SquiggleDAO, and the entire on-chain generative art community. The MoMA (@MuseumModernArt ) in New York has officially added a Full Set of Chromie Squiggles to its permanent collection!๐ https://t.co/n19IZdjJt2
The enduring significance of Chromie Squiggles itself, Snowfroโs pioneering exploration of code as artistic medium, is what ultimately made this moment possible. Weโre grateful for the generosity of collectors across the ecosystem, with special thanks to @kukulabanze & @Noahbolanowski at @1OF1_art , and all donors who contributed Squiggles to help bring this work into MoMAโs collection: @VonMises14@gmoneyNFT@jdh@ArtOnBlockchain, @kukulabanze and an Anonymous Collector.
Vuk ฤosiฤ is not only a pioneer of the internet art movement who coined the term, but also stole an entire website in 1997, then produced an ASCII series thereafter that... would certainly be a fav of Marilyn Minter, if you catch my drift...
Below is an homage to @ArtOnBlockchain's Chromie Squiggles series by Vuk ฤosiฤ. (Not the series referenced above).
Just hit a major milestone in my collecting journey as Iโm now the proud owner of Chromie Squiggle #3279
Low CS 6, beautiful flowing shape, and that big energy Iโve been chasing.
Feels incredible to add a true AB genesis piece to the collection.
Grateful for the journey and shoutout to @RDToTheMoon for putting this @gondixyz listed Squiggle on my radar.
Digital art for the win!
Squiggles are also the most collected on chain generative artwork in the world by a large margin with over 12 museums worldwide holding 23 Squiggles total. You can check them out below, there might be 1 or 2 not announced yet. This is also a major win for the broader space, as museums collecting Squiggles are gaining familiarity with the medium, setting up wallets, and learning about digital custody. As a result, when they engage with artists in the future, the focus can shift toward the artwork itself rather than being sidetracked by technological barriers.

Some were acquired and some donated. Donating to a museum isnโt easier than an acquisition since institutions apply the same rigorous standards to both. Every artwork considered for a permanent collection goes through a rigorous curatorial review, provenance and alignment with the museumโs mission. Accepting a donation means the museum is formally endorsing the workโs significance and committing resources to preserve/showcase and interpret it, so their reputation is on the line just as much as with a purchase.
