#Watch RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme, speaking at a news conference about allegations of violent criminal activity linked to agents of the Indian govt, stated that "investigations have revealed that Indian diplomats & consular officials based in Canada leveraged their official positions to engage in clandestine activities." Since Sept 2023, at least a dozen people from the Sikh Community have received 'Duty to Worn', with some facing multiple threats.

Investigations have shown that these Indian diplomats & consular officials engaged in activities such as collecting information for the GOI, either directly or through proxies, & other individuals who acted voluntarily or under coercion.

Evidence also indicates that various entities in Canada & abroad have been used by agents of the Indian government to collect information. Some individuals & businesses were coerced or threatened into collaborating with the GOI. The information gathered is then used to target members of the Sikh Community. #cdnpoli

Today, Indian diplomats were expelled from Canada due to serious allegations of endangering the safety of Canadians on Canadian soil. It is good to see law enforcement continue to do their work on a matter that has been gravely affecting the Sikh community. I am thankful we live in Canada where the rule of law is upheld.

PRESS RELEASE: WSO WELCOMES CANADA’S DECLARATION OF INDIA AS A “SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC SAFETY RISK”

The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) welcomes Canada’s declaration of India's foreign interference activities as a “significant threat to public safety” in Canada.

In a press conference held today, RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme confirmed that Indian diplomats have been linked to extortions, murders and other criminal activity in Canada and the Government of India’s activities pose a serious threat to public safety.  Indian diplomats have been involved in intelligence gathering against Sikhs in Canada which was later used to target these individuals.  The RCMP confirmed that at least 12 Sikh activists and leaders have received duties to warn from law enforcement due to ongoing assassination plots in Canada orchestrated by India.

Canada has also declared that several Indian diplomats, including India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, are “persons of interest” in ongoing criminal investigations.

In 2014, through WSO’s advocacy the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs & International Trade introduced a new policy that allowed kirpans to be worn in Canada’s diplomatic missions. The Department shared that this policy “allows Canada to demonstrate its commitment to religious freedom without unduly increasing security risks to mission staff and visitors.”

On July 28th, 1984, over 2,500 Sikhs from around the world gathered at a convention at Madison Square Garden to chart a way forward after the attack on Darbar Sahib. This event would lead to the founding of the World Sikh Organization (WSO). Many well known Sikhs such as Dr. Narinder Singh Kapany (father of fibre optics) and Bhai Jeevan Singh were in attendance.

For years, Indian nationalists have attempted to defame the WSO by sharing a short clip from a speaker who was neither a member of the WSO nor joined after the convention. The WSO did not officially exist at the time of this event. Sikhs from various places and groups attended, and not all of them ended up joining the WSO, which was formally founded following this event.

A list of resolutions with specific demands of the Indian Government was passed at this convention. Those attendees who agreed on the resolutions came together to form the WSO International.
