1) People impose a false dichotomy on their career options. These conversations often start with “I’m not sure if I should stay in academia or leave.” There are endless options for what your career could be. “Not academia” is a broad category.

@dr_alphalyrae I feel this. I think we fight against it in trying to be more colorful, but I was certainly taught that only certain styles (blazers, pants, pencil skirts) are professional along with more muted colors. Yet, why can’t we be professional in a long skirt or in a bright orange top?
