🕶️ Introducing #SSGreatBritain in 3D!!! We are chuffed to be collaborating with the one and only @SirBrianMay to give you a stereoscopic view of the iconic #ship. 😲
@Sirbrianmay 📸 #Stereoscopic imagery was used in the Victorian times and is still celebrated & admired today. It uses two almost identical images that when viewed together gives an illusion that it is 3D; they really were a clever bunch!
🎒As the first week back to school rounds up, we want to shout out & thank our incredible education team who welcomed 14,110 children and young people to the SS Great Britain on UK school trips in 2024/25!
We hope the team have an amazing year ahead as we gear up for 2025/26 🎉
What a summer it has been! 🌞 We've picnicked & played to our hearts content, thank you for joining us on board! There is still time to use our #KidsGoFree offer today and tomorrow before it must end.

The SS Great Britain with its huge size, iron hull and screw propeller was groundbreaking and #OnThisDay in 1845 the ship proved itself as an engineering feat by returning to Liverpool from New York on its maiden voyage. ⚓
Brunel finally decided to admit that the project was not working #OTD 1848 and it was later referred to as The Great Humbug! 🍬
A section of the railway can be seen in our Being Brunel Museum today. #Bristol#SSGreatBritain
🛤️ IK Brunel was undoubtably an incredible engineer, but he was also human. As such not all of his ideas went to plan! #OnThisDay in 1848 Brunel abandoned his Atmospheric Railway.
The leather used to create a vacuum inside the tubes was too dry and became brittle and when he problem solved with a softener this attracted rats who nibbled at the seals causing even more damage.
Have you visited The Board Walk yet? What are you waiting for? This summer is the perfect time to head down to #Bristol harbourside and soak up some incredible views over #dinner or #drinks!
