Somalian was the correct nationality prior to Somalia gaining independence from the UN trusteeship system.

Somali as a nationality has been pushed by the Somalian government because it claims sovereignty and jurisdiction over all Somali speakers including the ones in Kenya, Somaliland, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

The five pointed star and the citizenship laws are all based on irredentism.

Instead of joining the war against Ethiopia at the start of June 1977 the issas decided to gain independence and work for their own interests even signing a defence pact with France to defend AGAINST Somalians

Majority of the 1958, 1966-1977 expulsions of Somalis were from the City of Djibouti whose residents were primarily from Somaliland. Abby farah wrote to the United Nations security council to complain of the expulsions. The name the French had originally given was the colony was the “French coast of Somalis”.

France took note of this 1967 letter to the security council which it was a member of and less than a year later changed the name of the colony to the “French coast of afars and Issas” in order to completely deport the non-Issa and afar population.

In 1962 only two years after Somaliland was annexed and tied to Somalia against its will the Djiboutians woke up to the reality of governance from Mogadishu by hearing the tales of the Somalilanders who attempted a rebellion to free themselves

Sixty years later the same Djiboutians who voted to reject “unity” and “independence” preferring to keep the French who still reside in Djibouti till this day giving it preferential treatment.

It’s incredible to witness its low class residents behave like crabs in a bucket especially since their dictator is running for a sixth term after ruling them for nearly three decades

The 1977 Djibouti referendum was about one issue only: whether the territory should remain under French rule or become an independent state.

It was not a referendum on joining a unified Somalia, and there was never a referendum in Djibouti that asked voters whether they wanted to join Somalia.

How come Somalians on here add the “rigged election” news when it did not even entail joining the somalia or any referendum of that kind?

@PhiloSomalia @HassanA37827 you’ve no clue of history. Djibouti was colony.. and colony to France. Afar didn’t want to be part of greater Somaliland. Not to mention France is known to be harsh masters, Issa also didn’t want to be part of greater Somaliland.

@PhiloSomalia Somalia’s referendum concerned its own constitution and not the union itself. Somalia’s constitution is a domestic document of a foreign state and had no legal authority over Somaliland, it shouldnt have been subject to a vote there.. illegal. Somaliland had its own constitution.
