This week I've been experimenting with some older harvesting footage I took back in September - I didn't realise the amount of information that can be relayed through video & video effects.

What could have been a larch stand has begun to give way to sitka regeneration. Larch provides moderate shade to forest floors, allowing light to penetrate the canopy beneath. If left unchecked he Sitka will shade out the larch and dominate this section of the woodland.

Dormant larch needles shimmer like gold in the swaying treetops of the Galloway Forest Park. Working in the Scottish Forestry sector has some incredible perks not mentioned in the job description! 🌤🌲

Lichen emerges in the canopy of this tree as autumn makes the leaves fall. Deciduous trees go dormant over winter but their surface remains productive for epiphytes.
Lichen & moss are bio-indicators of air quality and can be found abundantly where the air is least polluted.
To live a moment in infinity is such a beautiful gift; we exist in a universe frozen in time. The stars will stay in place as long as we live, the landscape unchanged as we breathe. ⛰🍂🌳

We hide in boxes of concrete, plastic and glass. We illuminate ourselves with light from rectangles & squares.
Man came down from the trees and left the #forest at the dawn of humanity. While man left the forest, the forest never left us.

What's the benchmark for classifying species as non-native? 500 years? 1000?
If there is no actual benchmark then it becomes a matter of subjective opinion since all species originated elsewhere before we classified their natural habitat as the place we first found them.

Autumn weaves its magic through the forest canopy, soon only the evergreens will hold their leaves. Crown shyness sends cracks through the treetops, making each tree look like a colour burst 🍂🌲🌳

It's my goal to turn the fractured forest landscape of #britan into a network of commercial, agro & rewilded #forests. It's going to take an insane amount of work but I know it's possible. I think the key is making forests more short-term economically viable than pasture.
