@JennieFluin Having been on a conference organising committee the high cost comes down to venue hire. Very few Aus unis have infrastructure for conferences (large auditorium, with many small rooms nearby) so we use conf centres. Then all catering etc is internal, & can be pricey.
3 days left to vote where the new #oyster#reef#restoration is located along #Adelaide's metro coast. Returning @ShellfishReefs to our coasts will boost #marine health and recreational opportunities. Have YourSAy here: https://t.co/cVqbdpri0f
@InvasionEcology I’m trying to ⬇️ my meat intake (emphasis on red meat) & ⬆️ the % of more sustainable types of meat (i.e. poultry & seafood). I will not give up cheese 🧀🥰 but might consider using less...
Also put it in perspective- a greater impact on CO2 emissions would be to fly less etc
@shaunoboyle As an Aussie living in Ireland I am constantly perplexed by the difficulties and the high cost of getting around this country. Particularly when going between major cities!
Anyone wanting to help wildlife after bushfires - here's a simple cheap design for a 'water fountain'. Can be made from hardware store stuff. They limit evaporation, lasting 2 weeks in 40+ degrees here and making a real difference for our drought affected animals. #AustraliaFires
It’s hard to explain what this week feels like for many of us working on #ClimateChange, particularly in #Australia, but I’ll try in this thread.
Firstly though, a link to some practical things you can do to help those directly impacted right now.

1/ This is the world weather map. It’s pretty startling. Australia has now broken it’s own average temperature record 2 days in a row. There are bushfires raging across the country causing a ‘state of emergency’ AND it’s not even the hottest or driest part of the year yet.....
5/ Climate change is only going to continue to intensify if we continue to deny it exists and refuse to take serious action. Australia has some of the highest carbon emissions per capita in the world.
