Please bro don't compare Mbappe to Messi. Messi earned the right to save his energy because he was the greatest playmaker in football history. He would walk, find space, and completely dictate the entire tempo of the match.

Mbappe is a transitional forward that needs space to run into. When he doesn't press, it forces Bellingham and Valverde to do double the running just to cover for him. It completely breaks Madrid's defensive shape.
