CHSSA Varsity Final HC 66 SFP 58 The Knights were down double figures in the 3rdQ but, Sr Dylan Stanley had 14 of his game high 23pts in the 3rdQ to give them a 1pt lead at the end of the quarter. Sr Avery Tait added 16 pts to help give the Terriers their first league loss.
In the interview taken during the inaugural @CHSAA_NYC Media Day on Nov. 6th at @MountToday in The Bronx & spoke to @holycrosshsny head coach @CoachBTurnage and two of his seniors in Avery Taitt and @stanley_dylon.
Last season, the Knights were one of the toughest and scrappy teams in the @CHSAA_NYC Brooklyn/Queens "AA" division and showed how battle-tested they are in a tough league that included foes such as B/Q division champions, St. Francis Prep, Christ the King, Nazareth and Xaverian. They would go on to the second round of the CHSAA city playoffs, where they lost by a close margin to Cardinal Hayes.
This year, the Knights are back and ready to do some big things on the court as they have their leaders in the aforementioned Taitt and @stanley_dylon, and also some other gems in juniors @JahzirJc5, @amosun__, @bhsu30 and @keiji_clifton, a transfer from Forest Hills, and underclassmen such as sophomore Donovan Medley and freshmen Payton Wilson and Devin Bey. Another senior worth watching is Malachi Tummings.
Aside from their league schedule, which also includes their rivalry games with their neighbors from 2.6 miles away, St. Francis Prep on Jan. 10th (away) and Jan. 31st (home), they will also be playing in various events, such as the NYC Invitational on Dec. 8th in The Bronx, the Manny Leone Holiday Classic in Syracuse during the week of Dec. 28-30, the Gary Charles Tip of the Hat Classic in Mineola, Long Island on Jan. 4th, the Shooting Stars Showcase on Jan. 12th in The Bronx and also the Gotham Hoops Invitational in The Bronx on Feb. 1st.
In the interview, we also spoke to @CoachBTurnageโs days as a student at @holycrosshsny from 1989 through 1992 and how it felt coming back to the school to coach more than 30 years after his departure, as well as his thoughts on this year's squad.
Look out for the Knights this season.
