Celebrating 150 Years of the Orlando Police Department
From a single city marshal in 1875 to a force of more than 1,000 officers today, the Orlando Police Department has steadily evolved alongside the City of Orlando.
In the early days, officers patrolled dirt roads and saloons with little more than a badge and a sense of duty. Over the decades, the department advanced - embracing innovation and technology - and was strengthened by trailblazers willing to answer the call.
While much has changed since 1875, what it means to wear the badge has not. The men and women of the Orlando Police Department are still sworn to serve and protect the City of Orlando - no matter the dangers they face.
Their work drives the department forward into the future, building upon a legacy of courage, pride, and commitment - 150 years in the making.
