A great battle yesterday at Manassas junction on the old ground of the former battle.

This evening went to Newport, R.I., to join my wife who is there on the island with daughter, Marian.
Arrived there safely.

McClellan has evacuated Harrisons landing on the banks of the James River, VA.
Thus this campaign is a failure.
