Supergirl flopped, and the demo most responsible for this failure are women and the men who simp for them. It's a nasty chain of choices.

1. The comic: Tom King's True Grit ripoff, by his own words, was a Lobo/Supergirl story. Brittany Holzherr, arguably the worst editor at DC, made him change it. Result: The main character in the comic isn't Supergirl. It's Lobo wearing a Supergirl skin.

2. Supergirl comics have never sold well, and when they did, it was to largely male audiences. The choice to adapt the comic by targeting a female audience was a foolish misstep because it targeted the wrong audience.

3. Fast forward to 2023. James Gunn gives the film script duties to Ana Noguiera, who has no feature film writing experience of any kind. Nogueria adapts the story incorrectly, makes amateurish mistakes in the plot structure, and drafts horrible dialogue. Why was she given this important job?

4. Milly Alcock is cast as the lead. She looks the part, and she can act, but her red carpet and interview comments aggravate uncertainty about the film. Kara is not, nor has she ever been queer or bi. Kara is not a groundbreaking icon for genre films. Nobody cares that the film isn't centered around a man or love story. Foolish comments made by an inexperienced actress.

5. Worst of all. Women didn't show up to support the film. Demo numbers show the majority of ticket buyers were men (60+%). So all the cultural noise, articles, and cries of misogyny are not just misleading... they're outright wrong.

In short, Supergirl comics were created and have persisted because of men. If the same men who made Supergirl popular were involved, the film would have been better in quality. And as of now, the only reason Supergirl is making what money it's making is because of men.

If you see anyone complaining about men and misogyny re: Supergirl, that person is a liar, a shill, or probably both.
