Miley Cyrus is one of the youngest musicians ever to receive a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. She is 33.

She started her career at 11. She has now had a public-facing career for 22 years, which is longer than most adult pop stars get in total.

The Walk of Fame star matters less than the fact of who is receiving it. Essentially no Disney Channel child star has ever made it to this point. The casualty list from her generation is long. Most of her Disney peers retired by 25. Several have public mental health struggles. A few have died. The transition from child star to functioning adult musician is one of the hardest career arcs in entertainment, and the survival rate is brutal.

Miley has done four distinct artistic reinventions, each of which would have ended a lesser career.

The Hannah Montana era ran from 2006 to 2011. She was the highest-paid child entertainer in the world during that period. The brand was sanitized, family-friendly, and engineered for Disney's audience. Most child stars never leave this phase intact.

The Bangerz era in 2013 was the deliberate identity break. The VMAs performance, the haircut, the wrecking ball video. Critics treated it as a meltdown. The audience sorted into people who left her career behind and people who followed her into adulthood. The strategic gamble was that the second group would be larger. It was.
