Hunslet Engine Company (Leeds)

This locomotive spent its working life at the Dinorwic quarry and was exported to North America in the mid-1960s and returned to the UK over 45 years later in 2012.

PAKIS BARU No.1 has been promoted to a new centrepiece role above the stage in the Roundhouse museum.

(Currently dressed for Christmas!)

PAKIS BARU No.1 maintains many original features, including the O&K cab and steam-powered bell, the latter feature having originally been provided in place of a whistle in order not to alarm the oxen used to plough the fields and haul carts on the sugar estates.

PAKIS BARU No.1 is a relatively early Orenstein & Koppel (Berlin, Germany) locomotive which worked for many years on a sugar mill railway in Indonesia.
