Dr Asma El Derawi, a 32 year old single medical laboratory technologist, lives in Gaza with her family of 11 after being displaced more than three times, now staying in a damaged home without windows and with a broken roof that leaves them exposed to rain and wind. With no access to work in her field, the family relies fully on donations while managing serious health conditions, including chronic high blood pressure affecting her mother and grandparents and her father’s severe neuritis, muscle atrophy, and malnutrition, with his weight down to 50 kilograms. The household continues to struggle with limited food, clean water, medication, and basic supplies, along with the strain of repeated displacement. Despite this, Asma completed her bachelor’s degree in laboratory medicine before the genocide and later earned a higher diploma in science with distinction during it, and she has now been accepted into a master’s program abroad. To make this possible, she is seeking support to cover 16,700 euros in tuition, including 6,000 euros required upfront before her visa application, along with around 60 euros in visa fees, 10,000 euros in annual living costs, and between 3,000 and 5,000 euros for travel and relocation, while also trying to meet her family’s ongoing needs such as about 400 dollars per month for her mother’s treatment, groceries, education expenses for her siblings, and the possibility of evacuation.

Mohamad Al-Masri is 17 years old and lives in Gaza with his parents and four younger siblings. He is the eldest of the five children and has become the main breadwinner for the family of seven, who are currently living in a tent on the rooftop of an UNRWA school. They have been displaced 15 times, and their family home was completely destroyed and is now behind the yellow line. The family has no source of income other than donations. The youngest child is only 2 years old and still needs milk and diapers, which are not provided through the aid reaching them, so the family has to buy them themselves. Mohamad was 15 when the genocide began and continued his education online for the first two years. During the past year, his studies have been a mix of in-person and online learning, and he is now preparing to enter his final year of high school and Tawjihi. Education is very important to the family, but the costs are difficult to manage: his own education costs around $300 per month, while the four younger children's education costs around $780 per year. His mother also has diabetes and high blood pressure, and medication that was once available to her for free now costs around $50 per week. There is no soup kitchen near where they live; the closest one is about 2 km away, requiring them to walk there, and it is only available once a week, if at all, with food that is not enough for a family of seven. Despite these difficulties, Mohamad is trying to finish Tawjihi and continue toward university while helping his family cover their basic needs.
