María Corina Machado was denied three times in less than 24 hours in her latest attempts to continue her return to Venezuela. I was with her in Panama and witnessed the refusals firsthand.

First, a planned two-day journey by sea was cancelled hours before departure after the company providing the boat reported a major engine failure. Then came attempts to fly through Aruba and Curaçao, which were ultimately denied.

@abc_es can now reveal these were attempts five, six and seven. Since June, Machado has tried to return seven times, by air, land and sea.

I also saw the special diplomatic travel document issued to her by Panama on humanitarian grounds because her Venezuelan passport is expired. Contrary to claims circulating online, it does not grant her Panamanian nationality or mean she renounced her Venezuelan citizenship.
