Brighouse Town AFC Appoint Luke Haigh as Men’s First Team Manager
Brighouse Town AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Luke Haigh as the club’s new Men’s First Team Manager, marking the start of an exciting new chapter as a fully amateur football club.
Luke joins Brighouse Town AFC with a strong reputation for building winning environments, developing club culture and delivering progressive, high-intensity football. With more than 15 years of coaching experience across grassroots, academy, women’s and senior football, the club believes he is the ideal fit to lead this next phase on and off the pitch.
A UEFA-qualified coach, Luke brings extensive experience from roles across the professional and semi-professional game, including positions with Huddersfield Town, Liverpool FC and Huddersfield Town Ladies, alongside his current work in recruitment, analysis and talent identification.
Most recently, Luke enjoyed significant success at Marsden FC, delivering four promotions, three league titles and two cup victories while helping raise standards across the club.
Everyone at Brighouse Town AFC would like to place on record our sincere thanks to everyone at Marsden FC. Luke leaves with enormous respect for the work achieved there, and we know the foundations he helped build will continue to benefit the club moving forward.
Brighouse Town AFC Chairman Mark Booth said:
“From our first meeting with Luke, it was clear he had the passion, ambition and vision to move this football club forward. He spoke brilliantly about identity, standards and creating a culture that players, supporters and volunteers can all buy into.
What really stood out was not only his coaching background and success at Marsden, but also his determination to modernise and drive a club forward. He understands how important it is to bring people together and strengthen the connection between the football club and its community.
Luke is also bringing with him a strong and experienced backroom team, including UEFA-qualified coaches, analysis support and media expertise, which will be hugely important as we continue rebuilding and developing the men’s section.
This is a really exciting appointment for Brighouse Town AFC and we’re all looking forward to supporting Luke and his staff as we begin this new chapter together.”
New Men’s First Team Manager Luke Haigh added:
“I’m incredibly proud and honoured to be appointed manager of Brighouse Town AFC. Opportunities like this don’t come around often and from the very beginning it was clear this was a club with ambition, history and huge potential.
What attracted me most was the opportunity to help build something fresh and progressive. I want my teams to play with energy, aggression, intensity and personality, while representing the club and community in the right way every single week.
I’m passionate about creating environments where standards are high, players improve and everyone connected to the club feels part of the journey. I believe Brighouse Town AFC has a real opportunity to build a fresh identity and create something supporters can truly connect with.
I’d also like to say a massive thank you to everybody at Marsden FC for everything during my time there. The club, players, committee and supporters were a huge part of my journey and I leave with some fantastic memories and friendships. I’ll always be grateful for the support they gave me.
I’m also delighted that members of my backroom team will be joining me at Brighouse. They are people I trust completely, its going to be a busy summer and I can’t wait to get to work meeting wider club community and supporters, as we prepare for the season ahead together.”
The board and everyone at Brighouse Town AFC would like to officially welcome Luke “Haighy” and his staff to the club and wish them every success with the Orange Army.

Brighouse Town AFC has taken the decision to request a realignment in the non-league football structure and return to playing at an amateur level at Step 7 of the Football League Non-league pyramid.
The hope is to be accepted into the West Yorkshire Association Football League. Dialogue has already begun with the management committee of this league and there has been a very positive response and reaction to our plans. We have notified the Northern Premier League and the FA of our decision and await guidance on the formal process to enable this to happen.
This is decision hasn’t been taken lightly but affords the men’s senior team a reset and a chance to re-establish itself and grow once again.
The Club takes great pride in its rise from the former West Riding County Amateur League in 2008 to the Northern Counties League First Division and then gaining promotion to the Northern Counties Premier League in 2010. Promotion to the Northern Premier League – step 4 of the Non-League Football Pyramid was gained in 2014 where it has remained up until this season. We have often said we felt we were batting above our station, but we have had a great ride and some fantastic memories and friendships made.
Spiralling wage, travel, infra-structure and administrative costs along with the loss of key experience at a senior level have caused a strategic re-appraisal and need for re-alignment.
Mark Booth has stepped forward to take the role of Chairperson of the whole club, and he will be ably assisted by Julian Prior as Secretary along with existing members of the Club’s committee. The Junior and Women’s sections are unaffected and continue to grow, and this decision will allow the whole club the chance to move forward as a united entity.
Although this is the end of one era, it is the start of a new one. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to our supporters, volunteers, and partners for their continued backing. We hope you will remain with us on this journey as we build the next chapter of Brighouse Town AFC and continue to provide a football hub that the town can be proud of.

Not often we get to post a win so we’ll celebrate one when we get one! What a shift from the lads as we beat local rivals Ossett United thanks to a Marcus McKernan goal.
