2. Over 1m 16-24s are not in work or FT education. Not going up especially, but stuck at an elevated level. Taken together, suggests a twin approach needed so more people get help to look for work & improving conditions for employers to create jobs
Some worrying signs in the labour market. Payroll jobs & employment down, relatively large falls for retail & hospitality. Unemployment highest since the pandemic, partly reflecting more people looking for work (inactivity down) but suggesting they're struggling to find jobs.
Another set of worrying NEET stats, 946k 16-24s not in education, employment or training. Hoping Chancellor will speed up Youth Guarantee for England in Budget. But also need a growing economy & businesses taking YP on. Policy impact on hiring a bit more ahem mixed currently…
