In The Name of .. a Band.
I have long known that Mr B was not enamoured by the name, but like most band names, they are indelibly U2 now.
The name ‘U2’ has more in common with batteries, tape decks and spy planes, than a pun.
It was really only about one name; U2
There also wasn’t a list per se, though I do remember some of the other names that I put down for the hell of it, which included ‘The Blazers’ and ‘The Flying Tigers’. I was always writing down possible names in a journal that were most often taken from films and literature.
30 Years of Achtung Baby. Working on early cover ideas. Taken by Anton Corbijn with U2 and Brian Eno in the Dalkey studio known as 'Dog Town'. https://t.co/ydY3kufFlU
I am saddened on hearing the news of the passing of Vaughan Oliver. His work was inspirational and will stand the test of time as one of the finest practitioners of the sleeve design art.
