@jamesonashile@therestismoney To be honest, I didn’t know I was saying it wrong. You’re the first person to tell me. So thanks, you’ve helped me, even though your intention was to be mean. 🤣

DEADLINE by Steph McGovern
‘Power, corruption and lies’
DEADLINE is Steph McGovern’s first novel. An award-winning and much loved broadcaster, Steph has long been an active supporter of crime fiction, interviewing some of the biggest names in the business at many of the most notable literary festivals and events.
It is with DEADLINE, however, that Steph makes her most important contribution to crime fiction to date. It’s an absolutely cracking read, pulsing with jeopardy, mystery and excitement from the very first page. Beautifully plotted, with characters that sing, this is a high quality first novel that is as witty as it is gripping.
Steph brings a great deal to the world of crime and thriller writing. The novel is packed with insights into the broadcasting and TV news world, as the reader observes at first hand the excitements, frustrations and occasional mundanities experienced by Rose, the novel’s TV journalist protagonist. Steph gives many trade secrets away here, I am sure!
However, for me, the novel’s greatest success lies in its warm, funny, honest and authentic portrayal of life’s realities for many young people who do not have access to the support and encouragement they need and deserve. This is a novel about fairness, prejudice, equality of opportunity and speaking truth to power. It’s about the corrupting quality of power and how journalism can make a real difference in confronting that corruption.
And it’s an absolute page-turner. All that I hoped it would be and so much more.
I will have the absolute pleasure of chatting to Steph - alongside @ellygriffiths - at this year’s @bay_tales crime fiction festival on Saturday February 28th.

Really enjoyed speaking with @Peston and @StephLunch on @therestismoney about Iran's economic and political crisis.
I distilled a decade of research on Iran's economy to explain why sanctions and corruption have hit ordinary people so hard.
