Finding a mentor who fully understands you can be hard — particularly when you have a disability.
But that’s what five-year-old Colbie Durborow found in @StephTheHammer, both of whom were born with cerebral palsy. The pair instantly connected: “We were meant to be friends.”
Meet five-year-old Colbie Durborow and her role model, fitness trainer Steph Roach.
Tomorrow on #CBSMornings, they’ll share how living with cerebral palsy brought them together — and what they’re teaching each other.
@Marriott@MarriottBonvoy SERIOUSLY?? Do better! This is now the 2nd property in 2 days to not have a roll-in shower ADA room available! I reserved these rooms 3 weeks ago and paid in full! What is the point of making a reservation if you have to play room roulette upon arrival?
@BraunAbility Please take a moment to read! I LOVE having the ability and independence of driving but, it’s all taken away anytime something with the system fails 😞 I’d love to be involved in helping find a solution
We need to do better @united! I am waiting for your call & willing to help continue the education process but you have to be willing to actually hear us! Advocating for yourself is not selfish, it’s a necessity. This conversation is so much bigger than just me. Let’s get started!
(Part 5) They told me that my @permobilusa SmartDrive would only be allowed to come with me if I got pilot permission because it could explode on the airplane. Umm no.
The SmartDrive is FAA approved and has never once needed anyone’s “permission” to travel.😡
(Part4) I told her that was not correct and that this was my way of ADVOCATING for myself so that I could avoid damage.
Then something that has never happened... happened.
(Part 3) When I went to ask to speak to a @united ramp agents the gate agent told me I would not be allowed to have such conversation.
“We don’t allow you to talk to the ramp agents. They are too busy getting the plane ready with other bags.”
Absolutely NOT 😡
(Part2) so I make a check list. Find an assistant, get through security, have a gate agent tag my chair and then ask to speak with the ramp agents who will be handling my very expensive set of legs.
Yesterday went very different…
(Part 1) I have been traveling solo for the last 15 years and yesterday was the first time I have ever been publicly embarrassed by @united employees.
As a chair user I am very aware of the realities of the airlines breaking very expensive devices…
Reality is.. I can’t run for my life.
I couldn’t in school.
I can’t in a grocery store.
I can’t in a movie theater.
My crutches are my legs.
My wheelchair makes me faster.
Reality is… I will never be able to MOVE fast enough to save my life•
This world NEEDS to change 💔
