The UAE has localized the production of anti drone defense systems after the US startup Powerus began manufacturing its Guardian interceptors inside the country.
The facility currently produces about 30 units per day, with plans to raise output to 100. Each unit costs around $5000 and is designed to intercept one way attack drones such as Iran’s Shahed.

Chad has to manage a long border in a region where jihadist groups reside. Building drone and air defense capacity with outside partners serves the practical goal of enforcing that front and providing Chad with better tools for counterterrorism. Treating every weapons transfer as only about the Sudan conflict overlooks the security pressures that exist independently on the Chad side.

Footage of massive metal cages around Dubai airport fuel tanks is circulating. They look crude, almost absurd. But they illustrate something crucial about asymmetric defense: strategic infrastructure hardening against cheap threats.

The mechanism is straightforward. A Shahed-type drone with a shaped charge needs to detonate close to a target. These cages force premature detonation at standoff distance, venting blast upward and outward. The tank survives. The infrastructure stays operational.

The cages explicitly don't defend against ballistic missiles. Everyone knows this. They defend against the threat vector that's actually sustainable - drone swarms. Why? Because Iran has thousands of drones but far fewer ballistic missiles. Drones cost tens of thousands each; missiles cost orders of magnitude more and represent scarcer strategic assets.

This calculation gets sharper with Iran's depleted inventory. Over recent months, Iranian ballistic missile stocks have contracted from sustained air defense attrition. Every missile expended is one that doesn't exist for future campaigns. The cages essentially say: keep using drones and you'll be forced to spend strategic reserves on infrastructure that can now absorb the cheaper attack.

It's cost imposition through resilience, not impermeability. You can't wall off everything, but you can make certain attack methods uneconomical. The key is forcing adversaries to exhaust resources faster than you do.
