Happy Father’s Day to my poppa! What a special night at the @opry singing “America The Beautiful” with my friend Chris Janson and this incredible kids choir.
When I wrote the song (well, the part I actually wrote…some of the song was already written a long time ago…like in 1893!) but I always “heard” a children’s choir singing the last chorus with me as I was writing…probably because I sang it in choir when I was a young’un…and have always loved it.
So, it was a really special opportunity to finally hear it fully realized on the Opry stage! “America The Beautiful” is out now. Hope you’ll give it a listen…and sing along!

One of the things that makes the Speechless Tour so special is getting to journey through this album as it was first shared, song by song, in order.

These songs carry so many stories, memories, and reminders of God’s faithfulness and every night feels like much more than a concert. It’s a chance to look back and remember…to sing and laugh and cry together and celebrate the truth that has been woven through these songs from the beginning. What an amazing night getting to perform my new song “America The Beautiful” with my pal Chris Janson at the Grand Ole Opry last night! And a special shoutout to the incredible children’s choir from Center Stage TN who joined us and made the moment even more powerful and special. What a great way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday!

My apologies for the long caption that follows, but I felt like this one merited some explanation…so here goes.

I grew up singing and loving the song, “America The Beautiful”. Those who know my music know I’ve written a few songs of my own over the years referencing the fact that one of my heroes growing up was my Grandfather Rubel Rudd, who received a Purple Heart in his service to our country. He was a kind and quiet man of strong faith and deep conviction who loved his God, his family and his country… and I’m grateful and blessed to carry on his legacy. His first and greatest allegiance by far was to his Savior, as is mine. I am a follower of Jesus first and foremost and want to use whatever gifts and opportunities He entrusts to me to bring Him honor and glory above all things.
As I’ve tried to do that, I’ve been blessed to travel around the world and be in places that don’t have the freedoms that we have in our far from perfect, but nonetheless beautiful America, and this song was written and recorded as a way for me to honor my Grandpa Rudd and celebrate and remember the goodness and beauty that’s still beating in the heart of our nation after 250 years. While I know there’s much division in our country, and many “broken things” that are complex and need mending, more than I’ve certainly ever known in my lifetime, I wrote this song and am releasing it in hopes that in some small way it might help remind us, as the lyrics say, “maybe we can see beyond these battle lines that we have drawn and realize we’re really all in this together…that we all have different parts to sing, and how well we listen is how loud freedom will ring in America…the beautiful”. I hope we will choose kindness and dignity in our celebration of America’s 250 year history…to choose to see and celebrate the beauty where we see it…in America and in each other.

This very special man gave me the most treasured earthly gift I’ve ever been given…the hand of his daughter. He also gave a lifetime of love, encouragement, support & laughter to me and my family…and I’m forever grateful!
He went home to be with Jesus (& Maria & many others he loved) this past Wednesday just as we finished reading some scripture, singing “When We All Get To Heaven”, and saying a pray gathered around his hospital bed. So thankful for Poppy’s full life here on earth that touched so many…and for the promise of the even fuller life together that lies ahead…because of Jesus…we’ll see you in a little while!
