@wakenminds Another example where the materials perhaps hardened is the Ellora Temple which has many elephants and the like with missing trunks, possibly indicative the hanging shapes were more inclined to weaken prior to cementing than other simpler shapes, leading to imperfections.

@wakenminds I wonder if things like this were partly able to be done because the layers were deposited during the flood and they had not fully cemented so they were able to scooped and sculpted with an understanding it would harden from exposure to air allowing the etched shapes to solidify.
