It was wonderful to spend the evening with the coaches and volunteers of the @SthPembsSharks Girls Rugby hub during a quick trip to my home town of #Tenby this week. Great to watch the U14s girls train, ahead of their big final in the West Wales Cup this weekend.

Through @NewYorkWelsh, our #diaspora organisation based in New York City, we’ve been sponsors of the U16, U14 and U12 teams since 2019, and I’m so excited to be sponsoring a BRAND NEW U18’s girls team for next season, under the guidance of club chair Jamie Barrellie. With over 70 girls now playing regular rugby, our hope is to try and get the @WelshRugbyUnion, @WRU_Community, @WelshGovernment and my old school, @YsgolGreenhill School to engage more, to empower and elevate this girls rugby hub even more. We aren’t asking form money…we’re bringing that. We are asking for collaboration. Simple as that.

Grassroots sport investment is critical for the future of Welsh rugby, and a bigger more focused strategy in the female game should be a priority for every region.

But, for me, I can’t wait to see the next step in the Sharks journey unfold!
