Facing Washington Square in the heart of Faubourg Marigny, the four two and one half story masonry townhouses at 700-06 Frenchmen Street have a commanding presence. The main building and detached 3-story service building was as part of the vast real estate holding of Julien Adolphe Lacroix (1808-1868), a Cuban born free man of color, and after his death in 1868 was acquired by his brother Francois Lacroix (1808-1876). The wealthy and influential Lacroix brothers belong to that uniquely New Orleans group of well-educated, cultured gens de couleur libres. Many of whom had origins in Saint-Dominique. 
700-06 Frenchmen Street are visual reminders of the success and respect achieved by the Lacroix Brothers. 

Broadmoor Design Group, LLC is the architect of record for the redevelopment of this property.  Formerly the Father Flanagan’s Boy’s home, the improvements were badly in need of repairs, code compliances and restoration of the elegant character defining features while repurposed to a use that will allow for the continued maintenance of the historic property.   
For the construction administration, C. Spencer Smith, AIA, L:LC was brought in to ensure compliance to the Secretary of Interior Standards.  Ms. Smith of C. Spencer Smith, AIA,LLC is well qualified in Architecture under these standards and has served on the Vieux Carre Commission in various capacities for over 13 years.  She is currently engaged as the subject matter expert for compliance to FEMA and SHPO Section 106 grant related requirements on all historic school renovations for the huge rebuilding program by the Recovery School District and the Orleans Parish School Board.  

•The project refurbished and repaired the majority of character defining features such as the original staircases, the majority of windows and doors, shutters, and much original door and window trim.  The previously dropped acoustic ceilings were returned to the higher level with original plaster-like finish and a stone and wood floor finish throughout where vinyl and carpet had been used.
