The Netherlands supplied logistical aid to Syrian rebel group Jabhat al-Shamiya in 2017 despite knowing it was accused of war crimes, NLTimes reports.

Emails from 2016 show the Foreign Ministry discussed an Amnesty International report with the human rights group. That report, "Torture was my punishment," accused Jabhat al-Shamiya of executions, civilian abductions and running Sharia courts that imposed death for those wanting to leave.

The ministry knew the report's contents and the group's name.

Between May 2015 and March 2018, the Netherlands backed 22 armed groups in Syria without consulting its External Public Law Adviser, a post created to advise on foreign aid.
