Details on Michigan MiG-23 Fighter Jet Crash
At approximately 4:15 PM local times a MiG-23 fighter jet lost control as the two pilots ejected during the 'Thunder over Michigan' airshow demonstration at Willow Run Airport.
Details:
- "The pilot and backseater successfully ejected from the aircraft before the crash," Wayne County Airport Authority stated. "While it did not appear they sustained any significant injuries, first responders transported the pair to a nearby hospital as a precaution."
- The aircraft then went on to crash, as seen in the video, into vehicles at the Waverly on the Lake Apartments in Belleville. No one was inside the vehicles.
- It looked as if the engine experienced a compressor backfire before it went down, which could possibly be related to a bird in the engine.
- The airshow was halted due to the incident.
