@Jess_inthewild As an Australian rehabilitator, absolutely so harmful for people to corrupt the image of wildlife rehab with cutesy photos and stories. Our work 99% is not cutesy, nor should it be as that doesn’t benefit the animals in most situations
Josephine came in via a vet from a vehicle collision, she’s still in pain after a hit to the head but is settling in nicely. She just shows that all animals, dangerous and or large, deserve respect and care! Using a calm approach, she is not defensive! Can’t wait for her release!
A few weeks ago I wrote about a South Carolina woman who had been arrested for a miscarriage.
I was lambasted with comments about how it was a stillbirth, how she was a horrible mother etc.
Today we found out it was an 18 week loss & she DID go to the hospital for care🧵
Now we need action to stem the rise of benzimidazole resistance in both human and dog hookworms! We need drug stewardship before the widespread drug resistance seen in dogs of Canada, America, India and Australia is common-stead in human 💊. Thanks to my supervisor @JanSlapeta
‼️🚨 Human hookworms share universal mutations for causal benzimidazole resistance, much like in dogs… but what does this mean? It means that these previously detected drug resistant mutations are now approaching outbreaks of clinical resistance 🧵 https://t.co/M1DLSqtLW0
Our lab previously identified that there is a threshold of ~ 75% of the population containing mutants to observed clinical resistance (lack of hook development), but until now there was no causative studies on these mutations in human hooks 🧵 https://t.co/SrvxxVdOzR
This was a hated snake described to me only with expletives but she is more than that, she is a smart inquisitive python carrying suffering from all her past injuries which are sketchy at best! She is perfect with me!
Harrowing.
At least 100 children are reported killed or injured every day in #Gaza, since the strikes resumed (on 18 March) according to @UNICEF
Young lives cut short in a war not of children’s making.
Since the war began 1.5 years ago, 15,000 children were reportedly killed.
The ceasefire at the beginning of the year gave Gaza’s children a chance to survive & be children.
The resumption of the war is again robbing them of their childhood. The war has turned Gaza into a “no land for children.
This is a stain on our common humanity.
Nothing justifies the killing of children wherever they are.
Resume the #ceasefirenow
Based on its priorities, the White House sometimes directs the NIH to study certain broad topics, such as cancer or women’s health, but the latest directive’s specificity, inflammatory language and focus on a hyper-polarizing topic are unprecedented, NIH employees say.

BREAKING: Development of a spike protein-specific radiolabeled antibody used with PET imaging shows presence of spike in brain & lungs of macaque monkeys 3 months post-COVID; provides new viral reservoir detection opportunity for long COVID: https://t.co/dkXEyhxh07
Yesterday when I talked to @maxdkozlov about this, I wondered which of my NIH-funded colleagues would have their grants cut.
All of them. Research on pandemic viruses has now ground to a screeching halt in the US.

The termination of COVID-19 research is a “real slap in the face of the many patients struggling with the long-term health effects of COVID infections”, says Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist and director of the Pandemic Center at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
