ISRO's rocket launch livestreams are a huge mess.👎 #ISROfixYourPR Here's why: SpaceX, ULA, ESA, RocketLab, JAXA, ArianeSpace, all of them provide livestreams of their rocket launches with uninterrupted live views of the ascending rocket and on board camera footage from the rocket as it goes into space, and they also provide a continuous stream of telemetry (altitude, velocity) displayed on the screen for space enthusiasts like us. On the other hand, ISRO's launch livestreams contain less than a minute of live views of the rocket and barely any onboard footage (that too delayed and at like 2-3 FPS). And the live views of the rocket that they show are extremely poor quality. They do have AMAZING ground tracking cameras from which they have, on a few occasions (a long time ago), posted some one or two videos of launches AFTER they happened, but my question is - why not show it live like every other space agency does? Majority of the launch stream is just views of the faces of the people at Mission Control, which we do want to see, but it's not ALL that we want to see. Sometimes, they pan the camera over to a screen with an animation showing the events taking place on the rocket live as they happen, but it's extremely annoying because: A. On board views from the rocket beat an animation any day of the week B. In 2025, they should know how to use screen capture instead of doing camera-on-a-screen Similarly, they occasionally pan camera over to a screen showing some telemetry, and that's all the telemetry we get to see. There's a large number of us space enthusiasts who love to closely watch the telemetry of the rocket during the different phases of launch, and the same can also be intriguing to the general public and spark the curiosity of youngsters. ISRO should put an overlay on the screen with a continuous stream of telemetry like SpaceX or RocketLab do.

Here are some commonly asked questions and claims made about whether there is a need for ISRO improve their PR game (#ISROfixYourPR), and the answers to them: CLAIMS: 1️⃣ Why do we need PR? Achievements will speak for themselves. 2️⃣ We don't want to burden the scientists with PR work when their true job is to research and engineer. 3️⃣ People who are to work in ISRO/space industry will do so anyway. They don't need PR for that. 4️⃣ ISRO doesn't have enough budget to do PR. 5️⃣ It's better not to show everything to the public, how much we are showing is enough. 6️⃣ We will think about PR when we launch Gaganyaan, not for a paid international mission like Axiom-4. ANSWERS: 1️⃣ REPLY TO - "Why do we need PR? Achievements will speak for themselves." Sure, ISRO’s achievements like Chandrayaan-3 or Mangalyaan speak for themselves through headlines, but to translate these missions into lasting impact beyond chest-thumping pride, ISRO must inspire young minds to pursue STEM and drive India’s space industry forward. This requires PR that goes beyond news flashes— sharing awe-inspiring onboard images, mission videos, and behind-the-scenes stories of ingenuity, brilliance, and for ISRO, even stories of their signature frugality! NASA’s PR, with its iconic Apollo images and live mission streams, inspired generations and cemented U.S. soft power as a beacon of innovation, attracting global talent. Similarly, robust PR for ISRO will elevate India’s global image, projecting it as a leader in affordable, cutting-edge space exploration, fostering international collaborations, while building a vibrant space ecosystem at home. 2️⃣ REPLY TO - "We don't want to burden the scientists with PR work when their true job is to research and engineer." Absolutely — scientists shouldn’t be doing PR. That’s exactly why ISRO needs a dedicated PR team. Every major organization has professionals who translate complex work into understandable communication. NASA, for instance, has entire media departments that handle outreach without involving engineers in every press release. It’s not about burdening scientists — it’s about valuing their work enough to share it properly. 3️⃣ REPLY TO - "People who are to work in ISRO/space industry will do so anyway. They don't need PR for that." WRONG. Today’s best minds have options: SpaceX, NASA, etc. Visibility builds aspiration. Kids who grow up watching cool Mars mission content may choose NASA. Those watching HD on board videos of rocket launches into space may choose SpaceX, despite ISRO launching their own rockets and having launched missions to Moon and Mars. Because how many have seen inspirational and informative content about those missions by ISRO? Right, ISRO hasn't published any. Talented youth need inspiration, not just job postings. PR isn’t just for pride — it’s pipeline development. Without visibility, ISRO risks losing top-tier minds to flashier competitors like SpaceX and NASA, as is already the case. 4️⃣ REPLY TO - "ISRO doesn't have enough budget to do PR." Hiring a tiny team of media-savvy professionals would be a negligible fraction of ISRO’s multi-thousand crore budget. In fact, a well-executed PR campaign can bring in more budget, through public interest, and government justification for increased funding. 5️⃣ REPLY TO - "It's better not to show everything to the public, how much we are showing is enough." ISRO doesn't need to show off "everything" (as in sensitive info) to be good at PR. It's about showing enough to inform, educate, and inspire. What ISRO shows is often outdated, overly formal, or incomplete. Meanwhile, NASA and SpaceX livestream launches in 4k with on board footage, and even ground tests and static fires. This builds engagement. ISRO often achieves more with less, but communicates only a fraction of that. [Check replies of this tweet for answer to 6th claim]

We want ISRO to be like NASA and other Space agencies. 1️⃣No more reposts, only posts from ISRO itself. 2️⃣Better image and video quality 3️⃣Proper and timely information relay about missions #ISROfixYourPR
