Sir, you know how you tortured me and Chelsea fans this season. I know the verse very well, my Apostle. "Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep". Romans 12:15.
In fairness, I also cried when Arsenal fans were crying. But they were tears of joy.
Today, I was immensely touched by the action of an 11-year-old head boy from Corona School in Gbagada, Lagos. The boy named Tolu on his own took the initiative to invite me as Special Guest of Honour to his primary six school graduation ceremony.
Overwhelming majority of Nigerians are suffering from what I call the ‘Classless Elite Syndrome’ because greed has imprisoned us all:
The other day, we were to share 10kg bags of rice, 5kg garri and Bread to over 1,000 poorest people in Abeokuta.
The people who wouldn’t let me rest that I should give them are those who I know for a fact are doing fine in life.
Some bros that I know how they easily spend 20k on alcohol 3x a week without breaking a sweat, asked me for their 10kg bag of rice meant for the poor.
Upper middle class women fought for their own. I got so many calls, “Jack if you don’t keep my own, we will fight o”
People who earn a decent living were asking for their own bread and garri, even as we made it clear that it was for poor people.
Some girls with ‘3-camera’ iPhones took N500 bike to collect 10kg bag of rice meant for the poorest among us.
Perhaps, this is also the reason why palliative food items never get to the intended; the poorest among us. You’ll see rich/upper middle class people that can easily afford 30 bags of rice stealing 5 bags just to stack in their stores. Most times, the items rots in there. I mean out so called Rich & Elite hoarded INDOMIEEN! That’s noodles o, that the overconsumption of it is even dangerous to their health.
Our lack of class and toxic greed issue is NOT the problem, they are some of the symptoms of a major problem; POVERTY OF THE MIND.
How do we break away from this?
