Here is proof. Daniel’s 70 Weeks
The Precision of Prophecy
by Chuck Missler • November 1, 2004
Irrefutably Documented
To fully appreciate the remarkable significance of the following article, it is essential to realize that the Book of Daniel, as part of the Old Testament, was translated into Greek prior to 270 B.C., almost three centuries before Christ was born. This is a well-established fact of secular history.[1]
The Septuagint
After his conquest of the Babylonian Empire, Alexander the Great promoted the Greek language throughout the known world, and thus almost everyone — including the Jews — spoke Greek. Hebrew fell into disuse, being reserved primarily for ceremonial purposes (somewhat analogous to the use of Latin among Roman Catholics).
In order to make the Jewish Scriptures (what we call the Old Testament) available to the average Jewish reader, a project was undertaken under the sponsorship of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285–246 B.C.) to translate the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek. Seventy scholars were commissioned to complete this work and their result is known as the “Septuagint” (“70”) translation. (This is often abbreviated “LXX”.)
The Book of Daniel is actually one of the most authenticated books of the Old Testament, historically and archaeologically, but this is a convenient shortcut for our purposes here. It is critical to realize that the Book of Daniel existed in documented form almost three centuries before Christ was born.
Gabriel’s Zinger
Daniel, originally deported as a teenager (now near the end of the Babylonian captivity), was reading in the Book of Jeremiah. He understood that the seventy years of servitude were almost over and he began to pray for his people.
The Angel Gabriel interrupted Daniel’s prayer and gave him a four-verse prophecy that is unquestionably the most remarkable passage in the entire Bible: Daniel 9:24–27.
These four verses include the following segments:
9:24 – The Scope of the Entire Prophecy;
9:25 – The 69 Weeks;
9:26 – An Interval between the 69th and 70th Week;
9:27 – The 70th Week.
The Scope (Dan 9:24)
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy Place .— Daniel 9:24
The idiom of a “week” of years was common in Israel as a “sabbath for the land,” in which the land was to lie fallow every seventh year.[2] It was their failure to obey these laws that led to God sending them into captivity under the Babylonians.[3]
Note that the focus of this passage is upon “thy people and upon thy holy city,” that is, upon Israel and Jerusalem. (It is not directed to the Church.)
The scope of this prophecy includes a broad list of things which clearly have yet to be completed.
The First 69 Weeks (Dan 9:25)
A very specific prediction occurs in verse 25:
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.— Daniel 9:25
This includes a mathematical prophecy. As we have noted in previous articles, the Jewish (and Babylonian) calendars used a 360-day year;[4] 69 weeks of 360-day years totals 173,880 days. In effect, Gabriel told Daniel that the interval between the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem until the presentation of the Messiah as King would be 173,880 days.
The “Messiah the Prince” in the King James translation is actually the Meshiach Nagid, “The Messiah the King.” (Nagid is first used of King Saul.)
Bull’s-Eye!
The commandment to restore and build Jerusalem was given by Artaxerxes Longimanus on March 14, 445 B.C.[5] (The emphasis in the verse on “the street” and “the wall” was to avoid confusion with other earlier mandates confined to rebuilding the Temple.)
During the ministry of Jesus Christ there were several occasions in which the people attempted to promote Him as king, but He carefully avoided it: “Mine hour is not yet come”.[6]
The Triumphal Entry
Then, one day, He meticulously arranges it.[7] On this particular day he rode into the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey, deliberately fulfilling a prophecy by Zechariah that the Messiah would present Himself as king in just that way:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.— Zechariah 9:9
Whenever we might easily miss the significance of what was going on, the Pharisees come to our rescue. They felt that the overzealous crowd was blaspheming, proclaiming Jesus as the Messiah the King.[8] However, Jesus endorsed it!
I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.— Luke 19:40
This is the only occasion that Jesus presented Himself as King. It occurred on April 6, 32 A.D.[9]
The Precision of Prophecy
When we examine the period between March 14, 445 B.C. and April 6, 32 A.D., and correct for leap years, we discover that it is 173,880 days exactly, to the very day!
How could Daniel have known this in advance? How could anyone have contrived to have this detailed prediction documented over three centuries in advance? But there’s more.
The Interval (Dan 9:26)
There appears to be a gap between the 69th week (verse 25) and the 70th week (verse 27):
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.— Daniel 9:26
The sixty-two “weeks” follow the initial seven, so verse 26 deals with events after 69th week, but before the 70th. These events include the Messiah being killed and the city and sanctuary being destroyed.
As Jesus approached the city on the donkey, He also predicted the destruction of Jerusalem:
For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.— Luke 19:43–44
The Messiah was, of course, executed at the Crucifixion…”but not for Himself.”
The city and the sanctuary were destroyed 38 years later when the Roman legions under Titus Vespasian leveled the city of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, precisely as Daniel and Jesus had predicted. In fact, as one carefully examines Jesus’ specific words, it appears that He held them accountable to know this astonishing prophecy in Daniel 9! “Because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”
The 70th Week
There is a remaining seven-year period to be fulfilled. This period is the most documented period in the entire Bible. The Book of Revelation, Chapters 6 through 19, is essentially a detailing of that climactic period.
The interval between the 69th and 70th week continues, but it is increasingly apparent that it may soon be over.
The more one is familiar with the numerous climactic themes of “end-time” prophecy, the more it seems that Daniel’s 70th Week is on our horizon.

The 70th Week of Daniel has not yet been fulfilled. Will it happen in our lifetime?
DANIEL’S 70 WEEKS OF YEARS. Surely the Lord God will do nothing but He reveal His secrets to His servants the prophets. Amos 3:7 Perhaps no greater example of this promise exists than the great revelation by God to Daniel through the angel Gabriel who told Daniel that from the going forth of the command to rebuild the city of Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince would be cut off would be 69 weeks of years. Daniel 9:24ff This order to rebuild the city of Jerusalem was given by Artaxerxes Longimanus to Nehemiah on the 14th of March (the first of Nisan in the Jewish calendar) in 445 BC. (confirmed by Sir Robert Anderson’s great treatise on Daniel “The Coming Prince”) Nehemiah 2:1-8 Exactly 483 lunar years later (173,880 days) this prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus the Messiah presented Himself to Israel as their King for the only time this occurred in His ministry. This was on Palm Sunday when he arrived in Jerusalem on a colt, the foal of an ass, which fulfilled another prophecy which also emphasized the appearance of Jesus as both King and Messiah. Zech 9:9 The seventieth week of Daniel is yet future and it will begin when the man of lawlessness signs a treaty with Israel for seven years. He will have rebuilt the Jewish temple because the Levitical sacrificial system will have been reinstituted, but half way through this seven year period he will cause the offerings and oblations to cease Dan 9:27 and he will then take his place in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God and demanding to be worshiped as God.2 Thess 2:4 Jesus Himself alludes to this event known as the abomination of desolation, cautions “(let the reader understand)” thereby emphasizing its great importance and gives credit to the prophet Daniel for having made this prophetic prediction. Matt 24:15 This will be the start of the Great Tribulation and it will last for exactly three and one half years, after which Jesus Christ will return and His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives. Logically, rationally and reasonably if the first part of the prophecy which spanned 69 weeks of years, (483 years) or 173,880 days, was fulfilled exactly to the day with the greatest specificity imaginable, (It was on April 6, 32AD) one must conclude therefore that the 70th week of Daniel will also be fulfilled in like manner. When will the seventieth week of Daniel begin? It will start when the man of lawlessness, the son of perdition, the wild beast, the Antichrist signs the treaty with Israel for a period of seven years.
From the moment that Daniel’s intercessory prayer on behalf of Israel was received by God, it actually took Gabriel three weeks to arrive at Daniel’s location at the Ulai River with the answer to Daniel’s prayer since Gabriel had been hindered by the prince of Persia (modern day Iran) in the second heaven until Michael the archangel came to the rescue, overcame the prince of Persia and thus cleared the way for Gabriel to appear to Daniel. This priceless answer to Daniel’s prayer contains God’s plan for Israel and by extension for all the world and it is summed up in Daniel 9, verses 25 through 27. We could very well be at the end of the beginning of the final seven-year period. It’s been said that Israel is the minute hand of God’s prophetic clock and there are some bible commentators who see the time approaching midnight when total darkness will envelop the earth after the Holy Spirit leaves with the Light of the world (the church). “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” We can now be saved since we still have the Light. When darkness comes it may be too late. “Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

That the rapture cannot occur at the time Jesus returns at the end of the Great Tribulation is confirmed because the doctrine of imminence would thereby be violated. The doctrine of imminence, taught all throughout the bible, reveals that Jesus could return for His church unannounced at any time and nobody knows the hour or the day, not even Jesus Himself. We know, however, that His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives exactly three and one half years after the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, an event which is announced completely in advance and which can be calculated to the day. It thereby neither complies with nor qualifies for the doctrine of imminence so the second coming of Jesus on the Mount of Olives cannot be at the same time as, nor can it actually be the rapture. Additionally, the rapture must occur before the Antichrist appears.[2 Thessalonians 2:7] At the rapture all believers in Jesus Christ receive their resurrection bodies. If the rapture did occur at the end of the Great Tribulation (it doesn’t) then there would be nobody left on earth to inhabit the earth in human bodies for the one thousand year reign of Jesus on earth from the throne of David in Jerusalem during the millennium since not only would believers have their resurrection bodies but the unsaved also are not available to inhabit the earth in human bodies since they will not come to life again until after the 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ on earth.[Revelation 20:5]
David was part of the Old Testament so he did not have the Holy Spirit permanently within him as is true for us who are born again. We are temples of the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians 6:19 and God will never leave us or forsake us Hebrews 13:5, unlike David who prayed that the Lord would not take away the Holy Spirit from him. Psalm 51. So, when David prayed “...I shall not want...” he was speaking about potential blessings which were not guaranteed to be permanent. The blessings that we have through God’s mercy and through our knowledge of Him are the very great and precious promises which allow us to be partakers of His divine nature and to overcome the corruption in the world through evil desire. 2 Peter 1ff. Also, no matter how many promises God has made they are all yes in Christ when we speak the Amen to the glory of God. 2 Corin 1:20. David spoke of potential blessings which were partial and temporary. Because we are new creatures in Jesus 2 Corinthians 5:17 we have blessings that are complete and eternal. He who is least under the New Testament is greater than anybody in the Old Testament including John the Baptist and King David. Matthew 11: 11
