Imagine you can't get out of a hot car.
No aircon.
The door doesn't open.
The car keeps moving.
Then when you reach your destination, you board an old, rundown ship.
That's a live export loading day at Fremantle.
Construction workers can stop at 35°C. Animals can’t. No law says they can.
We're changing that. → https://t.co/ATqXFC7Uc6
It’s official: Australia has voted to end live sheep exports.
With the Albanese Government re-elected and long-time supporter Josh Wilson MP returned in Fremantle, the path is now clear to deliver the legislated live sheep export ban by May 2028.
Our latest media release breaks down what this means, why it matters, and how we’ll keep working to ensure the phase-out is delivered with compassion and integrity.
🐑 This is a win for the animals.
A win for the majority of Australians.
And a win for progress.

What were you doing on January 20th? Perhaps you were enjoying the summer sun, spending time with loved ones, or simply going about your day.
Well, on that same day thousands of cattle faced extreme heat at Fremantle Port, loaded onto the MV Gelbray.
Now, what where you doing on February 28th?
For those 40 days, these animals endured cramped, filthy conditions and unbearable temperatures. This nightmare voyage took twice as long as usual, perhaps due to blocked shipping routes to Eilat. Yet, the suffering of these animals was not enough to stop the ship—or those who profit from this misery.
📢 Speak up for them. Share this post. Let’s expose the truth behind live exports and demand an end to this barbaric trade.

📢 Before they even reach the ships, their suffering has already begun...
600 MILLION animals endure grueling journeys on Australian roads each year. But here's what makes this story even more heartbreaking... 💔
These sensitive beings can be trapped without food or water for up to 48 hours, standing in their own waste, in scorching temperatures.
"The lack of consistent and ongoing monitoring is appalling," reveals Louise Ward from FOUR PAWS Australia. "Animals can be transported by road for up to two days, in boiling temperatures... Frequently while they have limbs trapped between slats." 😢
This isn't about pointing fingers. This is about protecting both animals AND people. 🚛
🔍Did you know? While European drivers need special training to transport animals, in Australia, anyone with a standard truck licence can transport hundreds of living, breathing beings.
❔The result? Recurrent accidents. Frequent Injuries. Countless deaths of animals being transported. Unimaginable suffering that could be prevented. 🌟
When experts say our standards are "weak and outdated," perhaps it's time for Australia to listen.
📣 PLEASE SHARE - these gentle creatures aren't just cargo. They're living beings who deserve better.

Right now, animals are being forced onto the Jawan 🇵🇦—a rusted, outdated vessel that should have been scrapped long ago, not transporting thousands of innocent animals across the globe.
💔 The conditions? Appalling.
🚢 Seven levels of cramped pens—four completely open, fully exposed to the elements. Two fully enclosed—trapping animals inside with no fresh air, no relief from the heat, and only stale, hot air circulating.
💩 Animals already covered in their own faeces before even stepping onto the ship.
🥵 Heat stress and exhaustion—standing in the full sun, waiting to be crammed onboard.
⚠️ Zero welfare protections at their destination. Once these animals leave Australia, they are no longer protected by any Australian laws.
And yet, the live export industry claims this is ‘high welfare’?
🐑 Where are they going?
While the exact destination isn't confirmed, all signs point to the Middle East, where Australian animals face unregulated slaughter practices. The suffering does not end when they leave Fremantle—it only worsens.
💔 We are watching. We are documenting. We will not stop fighting for them.
📢 Raise your voice. Speak out.
🛑 Call for an end to this cruelty.

🐑 80% of live export ships are over 25 years old, with some dating back to the 1960s—long past their safe operating life.
🚨 More than 12 live export ships were detained in 2024 alone due to safety failures. These ships pose extreme risks to animals, crews, and the environment.
⚠️ Over 50% of the fleet consists of dangerous “conversions”—ships originally built for other cargo, making them unstable and prone to capsizing.
💥 This trade cannot be fixed—it must end.
Australia’s decision to phase out live sheep exports by May 2028 is critical, but we must hold the line and push for an earlier transition before more ships fail, more animals suffer, and more disasters unfold.

🐑 Is Unity Possible in the Face of a Sheep Export Ban?
While some industry voices argue against the ban, we believe that animal welfare must come first. It’s time for unity, not division, as we transition toward kinder and more sustainable practices that protect our animals.

Despite the recent closure of the Minerva abattoir in Tammin, WA, key players in the industry are optimistic about the future of meat processing in Australia. V & V Walsh, one of WA’s largest meat processors, has expressed confidence in the growth potential of the sheep meat sector, highlighting "huge opportunities" across the value chain.

🚢 Fremantle Port Live Export Update
Gudali Express 🇵🇹
After an 8-day journey from Indonesia, around 3,000 cattle transported from Gin Gin (2.5 hours north of Fremantle) in blistering 41°C heat. The ship departed on Jan 30, heading for either Vietnam 🇻🇳 or Indonesia 🇮🇩—both countries known for their lack of animal welfare protections.
Brahman Express 🇱🇺
Arrived in Fremantle Jan 27, for resupply before heading to Portland, Victoria, where it is expected to pick up cattle for live export.
Friesian Express 🇵🇹
Arrived from Singapore after dropping cattle in Indonesia on Feb 1.
🔥 Ongoing Concerns
Cattle are being transported and loaded in extreme temperatures with no protection from the sun. No meaningful intervention has been made to prevent this ongoing suffering, nor has Stop Live Exports received a response from the numerous formal complaints submitted over the past month.
More than 7 in 10 Australians support the live sheep export phase out. Together, we can ensure this victory is fully enforced. Protect animals, grow local jobs, and keep cruelty in the past.
