The bottleneck isn’t capital. It’s power.
New data-centre sites in Europe wait years for grid capacity. But existing industrial sites already have the connections. Discover how reusing Europe’s industrial past accelerates the digital future.

Storm Group is heading to Capacity Europe 2026.
Our Managing Director, David Walter, will be attending from 13–15 October, connecting with industry leaders across digital infrastructure, connectivity and AI data centres.
If you're attending, get in touch - we would be glad to connect and exchange perspectives during the event.
Decades of industrial change have left Europe with closed steel works, paper mills and chemical plants that still hold grid connections sized for loads that no longer exist.
That infrastructure - the land, the power, the grid position - doesn't disappear. It becomes the fastest path to new data-centre capacity.
This is where our platform with @cypher_capital starts.

Storm Group is heading to Frankfurt.
Our Managing Director, David Walter, will be attending Future Grid & AI Data Centres Europe 2026, joining conversations around the power, infrastructure and investment shaping Europe’s next generation of AI data centres.
📍 Frankfurt | 28–29 September
Attending too? We would be glad to connect and exchange perspectives during the event.
AI may be borderless. Its infrastructure never will be.
A model can serve users anywhere in the world, but the infrastructure behind it still depends on local grids, utilities, planning regimes and execution on the ground.
That creates an interesting paradox: the more global AI becomes, the more important local infrastructure expertise becomes.
For investors, that may change where and how the value is created across the AI ecosystem.
Our latest perspective looks beneath the AI boom at the physical infrastructure making it possible.
A data centre site can look valuable long before it is actually viable.
In AI infrastructure, the real value is created by removing uncertainty: securing grid capacity, navigating planning, and converting land into infrastructure that can actually be energised.
That distinction is becoming increasingly important as AI demand runs ahead of available power.
Because in the next phase of the AI buildout, the scarce asset may not be land or compute. It may be certainty of execution.
The AI infrastructure race is entering a new phase.
GPUs may dominate the headlines. But on the ground, the harder challenge is securing the power, grid access and permits required to put them to work.
At Storm, this is where we see the real infrastructure bottleneck and where years of execution can determine which projects get built and which remain in the queue.
Our latest perspective: The Bottleneck Isn’t the Chips. It’s the Megawatts.
The biggest AI infrastructure bottleneck may not be inside the data centre. It may be at the fence.
Securing GPUs is one challenge. Securing the grid capacity, permits and energisation needed to actually run them is another.
In our latest piece, our CEO Reza Nedjatian draws on more than 15 years of infrastructure experience to examine what it takes to turn land into a powered, permitted and build-ready site - and why that process can create value long before a data centre becomes operational.
At Storm, this is what we focus on.

Reza Nedjatian is an energy and digital infrastructure executive with more than 15 years of experience developing, financing, and delivering large-scale power, grid, and data centre projects across the Middle East and North America. Over his career, he has led the end-to-end execution of more than 500 MW of energy and digital infrastructure, spanning substations, transmission networks, power purchase agreements, and turnkey facilities.
Known for turning complex developments into operational assets, Reza has built and led multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and operations teams responsible for taking projects from greenfield development through commissioning and energisation.
Most recently, he led global mining operations for an Abu Dhabi-listed Bitcoin mining company, overseeing international energy infrastructure and digital asset operations. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the American University in Dubai.
Europe’s AI ambitions are accelerating. Its energy infrastructure isn’t.
As data centre demand surges, the real bottleneck is no longer innovation - it’s power, permitting, and grid access.
Policy is moving. Capital needs to move faster.
US built the training layer. Rest will build the inference layer.
AI infrastructure is shifting - from centralized training to distributed inference and it’s already reshaping where capital flows.
